SIG-Hammerli p 240 vs Hammerli 208s........

Post by daotoys1 »

How would a SIG-Hammerli P 240 set up with 22 LR caliber compare to a Hammerli 208s that is of course a 22 LR pistol itself ?????

Im interested in how these 2 guns compare in built quality and level of craftsmanship of the gun, as well as how they compare in performance shooting 22 LR only.

I know that the SIG-Hammerli P 240 is a multi-caliber gun that can shoot 22 LR as well as 32 and/or 38 caliber ammo.

For the sake of comparison, I am interested in looking at these 2 guns both in the 22 LR caliber.

Things of interest for me are the accuracy, recoil, and handling/feel of the guns and that sort of thing.

Ideally Im looking for feedback especially from anyone how has shot both guns....but any and all replys are welcome.

thanks for any help

:)

Both are great guns. I know a couple of guys who have both and although they think the P-240 is a great gun for center fire with certain limitations, they do not shoot the a 240 in the 22 match. They use a 208. You have to ask yourself why? If I were you I would call RoCo and talk to Doris. They are the Hammerli specialists and she can give you the pros and cons better than I can. My own experience having handled both guns is that the P240 is very muzzle heavy compared to the 208. If you like that fine. If you don't the 240 may not be the gun for you. Also I think it would be more difficult to put a dot on the 240. So if you wanted to do that, it might tip you towards a 208. http://www.rocosystem.com/

The P240 is a great big bore pistol. It is derived from a famous big bore pistol (sig P210) and was designed to shoot big bore. Then there is a .22lr conversion made for it, but it remains a big bore design.

The 208 is a pure .22 match design.

When it comes to shoot .22, the 208 is by far superior in feeling, stability, recoil... meaning that the match shooting results obtained with the 208 should be better than with the heavy P240. This even if the intrinsic accuracy is more or less similar.

I would say, take a P240 if you want to make use of its multicaliber possibilities. If your aim is to shoot .22 with best possible results, go for a 208 or even better a modern .22 match pistol (Pardini, Morini, Matchgun...).
