25metres caliber and barrel length recommentation

Post by tsokasn »

Hello everybody!
I ''popped out'' from the rifle topic to ask something on behalf of a friend.
He wants to know, for the 25m,what caliber do you prefer, .32WC or .38WC and if the 4in barrel length is appropriate for the above calibers.
(sorry for the bad English...)
Thank you!

At top international level in the ISSF CF matches the vast majority will be using .32 in semi-automatics.

Over the years, with guns like the GSP, it has become obvious that barrel length is not a decisive factor (providing it is within the 153mm maximum). Most people wouldn't want to be much under the maximum 220mm sight radius.

.32 S&W Long

Post by Popeye »

I am reading into the original question as being "Will my friend shoot okay using his .38 revolver (or .357 Mag.) with a 4 inch barrel in an ISSF centrefire match?". The answer is no.

Our club held its Centrefire championship match recently and it really was a 2 class event between shooters using .32S&W Long semi-autos, and shooters using .38 revolvers.

I figured that our club shooters using .38 spl revolvers either didn't care, or didn't realise, the extra handicap they give themselves when shooting CF matches using a revolver. It sure does give the arm a good workout though with a CF match- especially when using a heavy .357 Mag !
