Shoot With Cant, which handstop?

Post by Denton »

Hi Guys,
As the title says I shoot with a cant and am looking for advice on which handstop others are using who also shoot with a cant, currently I'm using an Anschutz Integral 6229. This handstop has a very good degree of adjustability but I find that the lateral adjustment is not quite enough for me when I adjust it to suit my cant, and I would like something with a larger diameter body also. Some of the new Grunig and Elmiger handstops look good however the lateral offsets aren't great. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The MEC handstop is quite adjustable. I personally didn't really like the feel of it and prefer whatever my anshutz one currently is. As an aside, bigger handstops are generally not as good as the small, button type stops. The small ones seem to fit better in the 'V' between thumb and forefinger.

The standard Anschutz 4752 can be twisted out quite wide. I shoot with a Gemini Ultra stock (and cant), and find this handstop to be comfortable, although I have had to tape a piece of rubber between the top of the stop and the stock so my hand isn't pinched. The diameter is about 4cm. I would add that as lateral adjustment is made by rotating the stop about the centre, it moves forwards as well as to the side.

The System Gemini handstop can also be moved out a lot.

The MEC that Rob mentioned, can be mobed sideways, but not by much I think. I've seen them used on wide stocks, but without trying it, have my doubts. I think Warren Potent uses a MEC, and shoots with a hefty cant, however his Grunig stock has the fore-end rail offset to the left, so this may compensate for the MEC's smaller adjustement range.

Good luck searching.
