Hammerli 160 trigger guard and balancing weight (forend)

Post by kbc »

For those who have Hammerli 160 free pistols:

I have just finished designing a trigger guard and balancing weight for the 160. It replaces the current heavy forend and flimsy trigger guard. The new forend will be carbon fiber tube with sliding weight, and the new trigger guard will be made of 7000 series aluminum and anodized in either blue or black. I think blue looks better. There is an adaptor block which holds the carbon fiber tube and also allows the trigger guard to secure to via two M4 screws. It will be similar to the 160 Special but lighter because the weight attachment on the 160 Special is quite heavy.

The advantage of using carbon fiber tube is because it is very light weight. This allows the change in the pistol balance and initial by putting a small mass in the very front end and without drastically increasing in weight.

If anyone of you is interested in getting this, please let me know before I send the prints to the machine shop. If we send a batch of order to the shop, the machining cost and material cost will be lower. I am guessing it will cost around $100 to $150 if the shop made just one set and without anodized. If multiple sets are made at the same time, then the cost per set drops dramatically. If you are interested in the design, I will be happy to send you the blue prints if you like to make it yourself.

Cheers,
KBC

Do you have any pictures or drawings ?

Another remarks: the Hammerli 160 has on the front of his frame an excrescence to secure the plastic forend. You could use it ti secure the carbon fiber tube. This excrescence doesn't exists on the 160 special frame that is different from the frame of the 160 and 162. Securing the carbon fibre tube will probably need to be different on the 160 special and 160/162.

This design is only for regular 160. I have the mechanical drawings for the adaptor block and the trigger guard. Have not drawn the carbon fiber tube yet since it is just a tube with two through holes that allow the M4 screws to screw onto the 160 forend holder. So this current design will not work with the 160 Special.

I am still learning the 3D cad software. Once I know how to make a parts assembly drawing, I will post it up here.
