palm rest questions

1. First of all why do they call it a palm rest? Your palm is on the grip, the edge of your hand is on the rest.
2. Rules state that no part of the gun/grip can be supported by the wrist.
I am not sure as to what is considered the hand or wrist, but the palm rests hits on the large bone opposite of the thumb. is this wrist or hand.
3. What changes can be made to the shape of the palm rest? Rounding edges, contouring to fit the hand, etc.? Thanks

1 The edge of the palm rests on the palm rest (handy to ensure that you have a constant positioning up/down on the grip, and can provide additional support for a nose-heavy pistol)
2 have a look at the drawings in 8.10 of the 2009 rules. Without a drawing or pic it sounds like this is beyond the wrist (see rule 8.4.1.1.1)
3 any as long as it does not touch beyond the hand, and does not go beyond the 90 degrees allowed for curvature (when viewed along the pistol)

I believe that bone is called the "pisiform" and is part of the larger carpal structure. Medically speaking the carpals are considered part of the wrist, so allowing the palm rest to contact the pisiform shouldn't be allowed by the rules. Judging by other threads on the subject however it seems a bit of a gray area, open to some interpretation on the part of the judges at any particular match.

Incidentally the palm rest on my Morini grip touches that bone as well.
