A Breakthrough!? After close inspection, I realized that I had inadvertently used a target from my "old stock" of Edelmann's; note in the picture it is printed with a U.I.T approval seal! I switched to the newer I.S.S.F approved targets and it seemed to do the trick. My first shot on targe...

Photographic evidence: the elusive "Cone of Protection

Look if you dare ... first reported on this board by Bubba AKA Dan Hankins back in March of 2004. As he described it: “The ‘cone of protection’ on the Edelmann 10 m pistol targets often keeps the pellet from hitting a deep 10, by deflecting the pellet as it approaches the 10 ring. Not every Edelmann...

OK, we'll stretch the regs a bit and allow NRA AP60 matches as well. But it has to be from a February match so we can set the cutoff at the last day of the month. Nothing against the High Noon or 20/20 stuff, but this is results from sanctioned matches we will fire in. Turn up the heat on the 'burge...

Announcing, the First Annual International Hamburger Open

Alrighty then, here's how it works. 1) Post a reply to this message to let me know you are in. 2) Pick a USAS (or your home contry's official governing board) sanctioned AP60 match taking place this month to compete in and shoot the match. 3) Report your score for the 60 shot match (no finals) back ...

Maybe we should all participate in the First Annual TargetTalk Hamburger Open? I am going to post about this and start a new thread. Tseug, old buddy, thanks for the inspiration!

Best regards,

My, my, my. Three cars, five pistols, such conspicuous consumption ... Are you sure you're not a US citizen? I agree that you really need to try before you buy, but I think my suggestion of doing this at a match where you can use one for a while without actually having to purchase it is much more re...

Het Tseug, good idea! Let's take it a step further and just buy one of every pistol available on the market and make sure we get each grip size available too, and while we're at it, let's get all the available color combinations so we can compare them in person. Then simply pick the one you want to ...

With the pellet pistols it was the late, great Don Nygord who in 1991 found that the application of a compensator onto the barrel of the CO2 pistols helped to break up the turbulent gasses that tended to disturb the pellet at the instant of its leaving the muzzle (improving the inertial envelope of ...

Thanks for the kind words Fred, and thanks to everyone else for the input. I have a friend who is a diver and has tanks that he will let me "leach" off, all I need to do now is get the filling adapter and yoke and I contacted Earl's in MA already for the adapter. Maine State Championship t...

Hey Steve, I don't know where you are located, but I know (IMHO) the best way to test drive is to show up at a match and introduce yourself and make your intentions known regarding equipment purchase. 99% of the shooters I have ever run into at matches are great people and will practically insist yo...

Thanks GoMo for the info. The other post was very interesting regarding LP300s, but really had nothing to do with my question. I think that the LP200 cylinders are only 200 BAR anyway, so the pump is a legitimate answer to not owning a scuba tank and getting refills, no? Any LP200 Air owners out the...

Walther LP200 Air

I just arranged purchase of an LP200 Air and I had a few questions: Who is the Walther importer/sales rep in the US? I am looking for a second cylinder and a filling adapter. Also, any thoughts on hand pumps, which is best and where to buy? I like the idea of not having a scuba tank to fuss with. Ho...

Thanks Steve, I'll google up some hotels close by and go from there. Or maybe a campground? There must be one near the base? By the way, how is it going through checkpoints with all your gear, guns, ammo, etc? Anyone been there, done that? The last time I traveled out of New England for a match with...

2005 Nationals Question

So, where does one stay if attending the Nationals at Ft. Benning? Is there housing onsite, ala Camp Perry, or do you have to make off-site arrangements? Any and all thoughts and ideas regarding accommodations are welcome and appreciated. Any other NE residents planning on attending? I think am goin...

New England Free Pistol

Being that I am sequestered in the hinterlands of Maine, can anyone tell me where and when there are upcoming free pistol competitions in the neighboring New England states? I have always been planning to try it, but I don't think that there are any competitions in my state ... at least none that I ...

Well, that was pretty thick of me. After posting the question above, I went to the ISSF site and found a partial answer within 5 minutes: "The first air pistol championship was conducted in 1970. It was a 40 shot course of fire for both the men and the women. In 1982 the men’s course was increa...

First Air Gun World Championships?

Anybody know where and when they were held? Who the medalists were? I know that the late, great Don Nygord won the World Championship at Santa Domingo in 1981, but I seem to recall that there were several championships held in Europe in the 1970s.

"You can convince yourself that hamburger is steak if you wish, but build quality does not lie. The Daisy 717/747/777 can shoot respectable scores with enough work, but they are still unwieldy cheapo junk." And you can look at a menu all day long that is out of your price range and go hung...

Well, to weigh in on this issue (one of my favorite debates actually): "Heck, I shot my first two seasons with a Daisy 717 and took first expert at a match with it over shooters with Steyrs and the like." That quote regarding the 717 is mine. The 537 score that I shot at the match that day...
