I tried to see if the retaining ring for my air rifle would thread into the 1827 I have (which is the same generation as yours). The ring fit, but wouldn't thread because the threads on the biathlon rifle were finer than those on the air rifle.

I think I’m starting to understand the idea. The one lens adjusts the focal point, while the other provides the magnification? I’m guessing that the lenses work in tandem for each change in focal point.

RPM, I've seen the Gehmann irises in the Champions Choice catalog, but I don't really understand them. I see that you can get diopter correction with or without magnification, but I don't know what that means. OK, I'm confused again. I would have thought that if the lens was between the eye and the fore sight, it would magnify both the sight element and the target. However if the lens was between the fore sight and the target, it would simply magnify the target.

Does the magnification affect the front sight ring or does it magnify the target?
