I believe that the single biggest issue with shooting well for the vast majority of shooters is some kind of unconscious reaction in anticipation of the shot; some kind of micro-twitch just before/as the gun goes off that creates a flyer or at least a movement of the front sight out of alignment. Th...

...and b) my standards kept going up as my scores went up... Too true, and one of the kind of sad things about games like this -- each time I improve, I'm just doing what I'm capable of doing, so there's no big sense of accomplishment in it. What would have been amazing when I started is now just w...

In my experience, if I apply the oil to the bullet as well as the cartridge case, I feel noticeably more recoil with that (first) shot compared to the others. I'm sure the oil produces additional resistance to the bullet moving down the barrel. Now, this may actually help some guns to cycle the acti...

I am told that the oil on the European cartridges is a one of their Health & Safety things, intended to minimize skin contact with lead, and not as a lubricant. Having said that, I think it probably does improve feeding with fussy guns.

I'm going to chime in here with a comment that virtually all flyers are caused by anticipation of the shot, causing the subconscious mind to perform a rapid and tiny muscle twitch of some sort. Many of these twitches are expressed through the fingers, and the tips of the fingers. The fact that most ...

I had a similar problem with my MG-2. It was due to me screwing around with all the setting screws without really understanding what I was doing, including the little one in front of the rear sight that you mention. When the gun came back from a factory repair, I note that that screw is now gone and...

Don't let them "factory-promoters" here deny/cover up the difficulties.
Yes, please don't post anything regarding Matchguns unless you have something negative to say. Sheesh.

Mine is also perfectly reliable with Eley, Federal Gold Match, CCI and SK. If anything, I'm surprised that yours would function best with CCI, given that it's known as a slighter longer cartridge (and I suspect may be the reason that the magazines were lengthened, as mentioned by Brian). However, th...

Tension in the muscles that is felt as a heavy trigger pull. For me, it usually comes from trying to make a perfect shot and a lack of confidence. Relax the muscles and shoot with a confident (but focused) attitude and the trigger pull is much, much lighter.

As usual, Bill makes a good point. Are the group sizes comparable? As long as each produces a good group, adjust the sights and who cares?

The talk of how the lasers will be so much more environmentally-friendly than air pistols is amusing. I guess all of the CO2 greenhouse gases from the air pistols are a major contributor to global warming? Or is it the huge amount of lead poisoning caused by the pellets? Sigh. What nonsense. Why don...

The problem with closing one eye for any length of time is that the brain receives a mixed message: the closed eye says it's dark and that the iris should open more, and the other says it's light and to keep the iris small. This conflict can tire your eyes and mess with the natural adjustment of you...

If I'm shooting CCI standard velocity, my Model 41 is happy, but if I want to shoot Eley in it I have to oil the top round or it WILL malfunction. With a drop of oil on the top round, it runs flawlessly. Despite being told that it should not need a drop of oil on the top round, well... it works, so ...

I found the MG2RF just a little too heavy for standard pistol for me. It's a lot easier to shoot for longer periods of time with the MG2 -- and you will want to shoot and shoot with this gun! :-) Yes, I had problems early on with a couple of broken parts leading to an erratic trigger pull that resul...

Very good article. The problem occurs for me when I'm visualizing the shot process, so I think what I have to do (rather than abandon the technique) is not to apply any pressure on the trigger during visualization. It's the sympathetic muscle movement while I'm imagining continuous smoothly increasi...

Starting trigger pressure while on the 45 degree down?

How many of you begin to apply some trigger pressure while the gun is in the "down" position? Either taking up the slack or even the first stage? Under the advice of a really good shooter, I've been doing this for the past year or more, but I confess I'm getting really frustrated at puttin...

1) Nope. Mixed brass, mostly Fiocchi with some Lapua. Probably a mistake since there's a huge difference in wall thickness between them (the Lapua is much thinner), but I don't see any difference in accuracy. 2) Taper crimp, but probably should have bought a roll crimp die instead. FWIW, I agree with Dave Wilson that the choice of powder has more to do with it than the measure. I use a Uniflow, and while the variation is about .1 grain with large flake powders, with W231 it's, -- well I don't think I can reliably measure the variation it's so small. I have no issue metering W2...
