RE: Pondering a Comeback

When I resumed shooting in October, my scores were understandably low. While my scores have been improving, my enthusiasm hasn’t returned to what it was 2 years ago. The logistics of preparing for matches and attending them, in addition to focusing on shooting, is far more demanding than I expected....

RE: NRA Rifle Coaches School

I'm a newly-retired disabled 3P and air rifle shooter, and I would like to "give something back". I'm thinking about being a coach, should the opportunity arise. I (and I'm sure many of us) would like to know more about it (qualification process, cost, etc).

RE: Pondering a Comeback

Thank you all for your input, well wishes, and sympathy. Now, to fill you in on things. My disciplines are 3P and Prone in smallbore, as well as Standing and Prone in air rifle. Until my hiatus, I was a member of the US Disabled Shooting Team for 18 years. I have earned 12 national championships in ...

Pondering a Comeback.

I have been on a self-imposed hiatus from competing for the past 15 months. Initially, I was going to take the summer of ’06 off to recover from exhaustion and burnout. Since then, I lost my coach, my trainer, and my dad all at the same time. I’m now in the spirit to resume competing, as I no longer...

Re: Slumps and Targeted Training

I see I'm not alone in this. I once went through a 6-month period of time in which I: Lost out on a promotion. Was notified of my brother's terminal illness. Got dumped while I was out of the country. Lost my brother long before we expected it. Was informed of possible widespread layoffs. Thankfully...

Centra Mirror

I recently came across a new item called the Centra Mirror Sight Ring. It's an interchangable rifle sight ring that has a mirrored surface. Yes, you see your own eye on the surface. Its purpose is to ensure proper rear sight alignment with your eye. When the hole superimposes the pupil of the shooti...

Re: Grunig RS Revolution Stock

What you said about each shooter being different really applies to me. Because I'm disabled, my physical proportions are far different from most shooters. For me, the greatest adjustments are in the pistol grip, cheekpiece, and buttplate. The pistol grip and cheekpiece are almost universally adjusta...

Re: Grunig RS Revolution Stock

At first, it was difficult getting accustomed to the features and adjustments. Since I've now got the adjustments where I need them, my 3P aggregate average has gone up at least 40 points . If you're shooting mediocre scores in Prone and 3P, this is definitely the stock to get. I use it with an Ansc...

Re: SHOOTER'S AGE

I do air rifle and smallbore rifle. I first picked up a gun at age 23, and I've been at it for 17 years. You can do the math. In that time: 12-Time National Champion (various events) 7-Time International Medalist 3-Time Paralympian (1992-2000) PaulB and 1813Benny, it's good to see you on the forum t...

Re: What makes you feel great (in shooting)?

I get the "buzz" from a number of sources when I shoot. Comaraderie: Having friends who aren't just great people but who also have a common interest in what we do and how I do it. Peace of Mind: When I have a bad day at work or generally speaking, I either go shooting or concentrate on gre...

Re: Disabled shooters and policies

I live in the US. Question 1. Do disabled shooters get support from your national shooting body, and if so how? Our disabled shooting governing body has established “performance plans” for all disabled shooters. However, they are based on the performances of the top scores in each respective event a...

Matt Emmons on Jeopardy! (well, kind of)

I just saw Jeopardy!, and Matt Emmons was mentioned in a clue within the category "The Olympics". They wanted to know the sport in which he won a gold medal in Athens. Well, it was only a few seconds, but at least it was mentioned on TV. Of course, none of the 3 contestants knew his sport.

Shooting Presentation

I am compiling information for a presentation to a group of Boy Scouts. This isn’t a shooting demonstration, but a discussion of my experiences in shooting. I am a physically challenged rifle shooter, and my intent is to show how I have made the best possible situation despite adverse conditions. I ...

Smallbore preference

I now use a hybrid gun, so count me as an "other". Earlier this year, I got a Grunig & Elmiger RS Revolution aluminum stock, and an Anschutz 1907 action. I had used (put up with) a FWB 2600 for 12 years.
