The slide mount is the way to go because it eliminates any error caused by any play in the slide to frame fit. If your set up is right you do not need to up your charge. How did you see the red dot "everywhere"?
A red dot sight does not project out side of the sight it self.
Maybe you were "cheek to cheek" and both looking through the
dot sight at the same time?

Thanks for letting me know that the Clark Long Heavey Slide with an Ultradot4 mounted on the slide that I normally shoot 500 rounds without cleanning or any jams or misfeeds can't work. Buy a vioce recorder. Put the commands with the correct timing and a start and stop buzzer or other sound on it.

I shot an (out of the box) markII well in to expert class. Most high end euro pistols have short barrels, you money would be better spent on training ammo.
