Re: Miracle Cure for Fussy Benelli .22's!

All I know is what the guy at the factory told me. I don't know if he's terribly busy or what, but the answers I get to questions are usually very terse and a bit cryptic. We have very early MP90S's with a definite 2-step bevel on the chamber edge, and they have always worked fine with the old (shor...

Re: Pellet Weight for Morini 162ei

Most people don't care what weight they shoot. You shouldn't either. Pick one & stick with it. You definitely don't want to change pellet weight at random. Going from 8.2 grains to 7.0 grains can produce between a 10 to 15 m/sec change in velocity, and that is enough that it will make a slight s...

Re: Pellet Weight for Morini 162ei

The whole "heavy for rifles, light for pistols" may harken back to the days of single stroke pneumatics, where you could get more power out of a larger rifle piston system. For PCP pistols especially, you will never know the difference in group size (if there is one). The college pistol te...

Re: Thoughts on reforming RF

The Cibelec's appear to be designed for .22, which is fine if that is your game. However, if you read the fine print, the Cibelec targets require air gun energy greater than 5 joules, which is at the upper range for most competition air pistols. With 8.2 grain pellets, you'd need a velocity of 524 F...

Re: Miracle Cure for Fussy Benelli .22's!

<t>I sent a note to my contact at the factory, and asked about the feeding issues we have had with some pistol/magazine combinations. No real info on that, but I got some more info on the firing pin issues.<br/> <br/> Apparently, Benelli decided that they needed to radius the rear of the chamber edg...

Re: Pellet Weight for Steyr Velocity Adjustment?

I'll have to study the diagram. The inlet screw is under the front cap, and I recall some mention of threadlocker & soaking in acetone... I have a two pin security bit that should fit, but the pins are square, and I may want to round them a bit before I chew up the holes in the cap. It looks lik...

Re: Pellet Weight for Steyr Velocity Adjustment?

I have a dead regulator I swapped out from another pistol. I'm working on a drawing to fabricate a pressure tester, and I had hoped to finish making that before overhauling any regulators. I guess I will rebuild the first one and swap it onto this pistol and see how it goes...

Re: Pellet Weight for Steyr Velocity Adjustment?

I think I found my culprit... Once I got my chronograph working, I tested the pistol with the the new breech seals for 10 shots, using the same 8.2 grain R10's I had for the previous test. I got a slight increase in velocity, and it was chugging along very repeatably around 162 m/sec. Then I had thr...

I think part of it was that they had to make room for the "team" events with men & women.

Re: Electronic Target for home use?

If the goal is to learn to shoot better, I think you get more bang (pop?) for your buck with an electronic trainer. Electronic targets are very nice, but walking 10m to change a target isn't that much of a burden. You can live fire with an electronic trainer, and not only see where your shots went, ...

Re: Pellet Weight for Steyr Velocity Adjustment?

Thanks! If Steyr sets their velocity with 7.0 grain pellets, that might explain what I'm seeing. The pistol I'm working on is running just over 160 m/sec with 8.2 grain pellets. That means it's probably close to 170 m/sec with 7 grain pellets, which would cause at least some of the high air usage. I...

Pellet Weight for Steyr Velocity Adjustment?

I need to adjust the velocity of an LP10 that is using too much air. I've rummaged around on-line, and every source I've found agrees that the velocity should be set between 155 and 160 m/sec. HOWEVER, they never specify the pellet weight. I've checked several test targets, and all the ones I have s...

Re: .22 LR Cartridge Lifter Blocks

Infil is really a two part question. The percentage is important, but the pattern used is also critical, and will affect the percentage required. In the distant past, I just used a rectangular grid, and ran around 40%. They now have a fancy "gyroid" infil pattern, which is much stronger fo...

Re: .22 LR Cartridge Lifter Blocks

I designed one for Federal 711B a while back, but I've found their ammo to be useless in most of my pistols, and I'd forgotten I have a file for it. The recoil of the 711B is too weak (and variable) to operate any of my semi-autos, and it gets my free pistol dirty so fast I have to clean the chamber...

.22 LR Cartridge Lifter Blocks

I'm finally getting around to putting some of my shooting related 3D print files on Thingiverse. Most of these were developed for the college team I help coach, but I've also designed some items for my own use. The first set of designs is for "cartridge lifter" blocks that hold .22 long ri...

Re: IZH 46

Depends on the storage environment, but if it was stored closed up and not too hot, it is likely to be OK. I'd start with a drop of air tool oil (available in small bottle for ~ $5 from most large home stores like Home Depot) down the hole under the breech lever. That goes down into the firing valve...

General recommendation is to lay off significant training 3 days before you compete. It it's trashing your practice as well, you are probably overdoing it

Re: Old vs new Pardini

The absolute accuracy of the barrels is probably identical. The issue is the ergonomic features that allow the shooter to make use of that. Trigger adjustability is the only one I would worry about much, but that's a big jump in price for a slight improvement in the trigger. Also, if you look closel...

Re: Old vs new Pardini

There are two major difference I can see. One is the trigger design. This one is unusual, and may be a custom version. The other difference is the absence of barrel weights. I always thought those were mostly a gimmick anyway. I played with mine a fair amount, and they never made any noticeable diff...

Re: Pistol shooting and gym

There are two kinds of muscle tissue; fast twitch & slow twitch. For pistol, you want slow twitch muscles, which are built up doing lots of reps with light weights. Heavy weights increase fast twitch muscle which has poor control and poor endurance.
