Out of curiosity, I tracked down a version (don't know how up-to-date) of the California list, and the one I found only lists semi-autos. I don't know if they have other exemptions in their law for single shot .22's, but I didn't see ANY free pistols listed. The California list also is only supposed...

I took the offending pistol apart last night. It really wasn't that dirty, and probably could have gone another 500 rounds before showing functioning problems. One thing I did find was that the steel insert that the barrel bolt goes into was also loose. That may have contributed to the problem. I ti...

Barrel on Pardini SP Came Loose!
My wife is getting back into competitive shooting, and was doing quite well in the local NRA bullseye league until last Tuesday. Her groups suddenly opened up and were about 3 inches off center at 5:00. She is using a Docter red-dot sight, and I thought it might have gone wonky. To make a long story...

Here's another data point: I shoot Federal 711 in my free pistols, and it is quite accurate. I had an older lot where there was lead shaved off the bullet built up around the top edge of some cases. It looked as if the lead wasn't seated all the way before the case was crimped, or something. Whateve...

Although trying out and examining the exact pistol you want to purchase is ideal, at a minimum you really want to see and handle a pistol of the same model. Most dealers aren't going to let you try out a new pistol by shooting it anyway. If you can find someone in your area who has the type of pisto...

It's even worse than that. I had a spare Morini cylinder that would fit the pistol OK, but not the filling adapter. I tried it on another filling adapter, and it just wouldn't thread all the way on. The cylinder that came with the pistol was fine. I had to send the spare back for a replacement, whic...

I'm trying to compile a list of books for pistol shooting, both International & NRA bullseye. The fundamentals should be the same anyway. This is intended for beginning shooters who have taken little more than a basic pistol safety course, but who want to learn how to actually hit the bullseye. ...

I tried several ammos in my wife's Pardini SP, and on the advice of one of the state's top shooters, I tried Aguila subsonic. It cycles the pistol just fine, is very accurate, and is very reasonably priced. I bought a case, and I don't think she's ever had a single dud. Don't get too hung up on the ...

As a FAS enthusiast, but they are by no means the only culprits, I know that firing pins have been produced in varying lengths and shapes over the years. Take a few minutes to check that your replacement firing pin fits and works. This is one reason I bought a spare at the time I got the pistol. It...

Firing Pin Busted on My Benelli
My Benelli MP90S went click last night instead of bang. I found the front 1/8" of the firing pin on the bench. No big deal to replace (I think), and I have a spare I bought 5 years ago when I bought the pistol. Any comments or recommendations on the replacement process? It looks like all I have...

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. The winner looks like boiled linseed oil. I got some at the local hardware store and tried it in an unobtrusive location, and it seems to work fine. Before I posted here, I emailed Morini the same question, but didn't get a reply. I just received a response,...

Finish on Morini Grips?
I have a new 162EI, and I need to do a little whittling on the grip. The factory finish appears to be an extremely light oil finish, if there is any finish at all. I tend to sweat a fair amount, and my grips can get grungy fairly quickly. I'd like to seal the wood, especially where I've sanded/filed...
