The Excell is an alkaline, and should work OK. This place has them as well, and actually lists them as working in the Morinis: http://www.batteriesinaflash.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2200 I'm not sure where Excells are made (China?), and I have no idea how the quality is. A...

Well, I'm certainly confused by this data sheet. For one, the chemical system is listed as "zinc-manganese dioxide" which is unfamiliar to me. The discharge curve looks more carbon-zinc like than alkaline. Even stranger is that the photo shows a cylindrical battery, but the schematic draw...

If you read the Eveready datasheet on the 504, they even tell you which cells they use. At $16 a pop, it might be cheaper to buy the button cells than buying a Varta, but the price of the 504's is low enough that it's probably not worth trying. I have two of each brand en route. I will let folks kno...

The 504's can be had easily. It's the V74PX's that are hard to find. The old carbon zinc 504's didn't last nearly as long as the alkaline, and tended to poop out quicker when it was cold. Yes, Google comes up with lots of hits for the V74PX. They are 99% from overseas. I did discover a couple of opt...

US Source for Varta V74PX 15V Batteries for Morini CM54E FP?

I haven't had time to shoot much free pistol lately, and finally got out my Morini today. It's one of the older ones that uses an odd 15V battery. The battery that was in it was dead, but I had a "new" one still in it's wrapper. I got to the range to practice, and got 1 shot out of it. It ...

Air Gun "Overflow" Backstop?

I have a commercial air gun backstop that works just fine, but it's no bigger than the targets. I would like to allow my daughter to use it, and she's just learning. I want to put something up behind the backstop in case one gets away from her. I'm hoping this will be a rare event, but for the sake ...

The thing looks impossible to clean. Are there any tricks for making sure these things don't just slowly (or not so slowly) accumulate crud?

I have a Hill with the Dry-Pak system. It seems to work fine. I haven't used it recently when it's been very humid, but I certainly feel better trying to keep moisture out of my pistol. One concern I have is knowing when to replace the drying material. There's no indicator, and I'm sure its life dep...

My wife and I took Zins's two day clinic with Brian and Andy Moody about a month ago. It was a real eye opener, and I'm still trying to digest it all. He makes a big distinction between US bullseye shooting and most international disciplines. The way he sets his grips & triggers up is very diffe...

I would definitely avoid Remington. They may have gotten their act together, but for years their stuff was garbage. If you are on a budget, you can find good ammo without going broke. My wife shoots Aguila subsonic in her SP, and it is quite accurate. My only concern is that after going through ~250...

When I was on the pistol team in college, we cleaned many hundreds of pounds of pulverized lead out of the backstop with our bare hands & no respirators. We were told to wash up carefully afterward, and that was it. I also shot about 500 rounds a week in an indoor range, but with decent ventilat...

Although the GSP is a fine pistol, Walther isn't known for supporting their pistols with parts for very long after they come out with a new or revised model. The MIT pistol team had two older GSP's that broke. Walther informed them that there was a design flaw in that model that caused the failures....

It may depend on the exact nature of the signal, but I do have evidence to support the notion that the brain processes sound faster than sight. Back when Morse code was still used in the Navy, they used it with an audio signal for radio communication, and with "blinkers" for close communic...

My wife's SP "Old" is very fond of Aguila subsonic, which also has the advantage of being relatively inexpensive. It's been very reliable, and is quite accurate in her pistol. I don't know if there is a significant difference in ammo preference between the "Old" and the "New...

Most Tau-7's have a problem with the latch popping loose unless you simultaneously push down and rearward on the latch knobs when you close it. Just pushing down on the top of the hinged piece won't do it. You should be able to see the "bolt" slide down into the mating hole a small distanc...

I would think the various existing collegiate programs would be happy to discuss any donations you might care to make. I've donated an air pistol and some other gear to the MIT team in the past. The NRA could tell you what schools have active programs. There may be schools trying to get a program go...

I think the reason top shooters have fewer alibis is that they are willing to put in the time to find a combination of pistol & ammo that works reliably. If a pistol combined with a brand of ammo isn't reliable, they switch. Some pistol designs are amazing forgiving. The old High Standards (pre-...

I like the Combro approach, but it's really designed for air rifles. The original mounting system doesn't work well for air pistols with the cylinder under the barrel. I saw one web site that had a gadget bent out of coat hanger wire to extend the mounting to work on pistols, but that seems pretty s...
