Re: Is the Hammerli 150 a difficult pistol?

You do need to be careful if you want to de-cock the pistol. I think having the lever all the way up or all the way down is OK. If you have the cocking lever in the middle, I think that's how you break the cocking ear off the firing pin. The last time I had to fix a 160, the firing pins were about $...

Re: Steyr Air Pistol Case

Silicone rtv adhesive works. https://www.jbweld.com/product/clear-silicone Unless you get electronics grade RTV (= expensive), the standard hardware store stuff releases acetic acid fumes when it cures. I would make extra sure you let the case air out for quite a while before putting anything you d...

Re: Steyr Air Pistol Case

I've got several cases where the foam keeps shifting internally, so I feel your pain. The cases are all made by Negrini, and I suspect they install the foam. I don't have time to do much digging at the moment, but 3M used to sell adhesive for upholstery work in big tubes. It's solvent based, and sho...

Re: Is the Hammerli 150 a difficult pistol?

Free pistols tend to have tight chambers, and extraction over the course of a match can be an issue. Last year I discovered that Norma TAC-22 doesn't have that problem, but you have to put up with the greasy lube they use. I suspect any RWS ammo is similar, as they are all made in the same factory.

Re: Is the Hammerli 150 a difficult pistol?

I had one for a while, but I found it less forgiving that my previous free pistol (Pardini PGP-75). After selling my 150, I have been shooting a Morini CM84E for over 20 years, and I love it. The dry fire ability of the electronic trigger is REALLY useful to me. I'm trying to get ready for the state...

Re: Back after a long time with more sad news

Part of getting better is studying your targets. Most of the time, there are a small number of wide shots that are inflating the size of your groups, and really dragging down your scores. Those indicate some sort of breakdown in your shot process. Identifying what is lacking and working on fixing th...

Re: Back after a long time with more sad news

You already have the answer. Shoot faster! I'm 72, and every year, I need to concentrate on getting my shots off sooner. This does 3 things: 1) You are less likely to try to make things perfect, hold until your wobble increases, and then force the shot off with poor trigger control. 2) It's less tir...

Re: Air Venturi Importing Snowpeak Pistols?

They've been waiting for their first shipment for a while. It will be very interesting to see how this all works out. The question will be whether Air Venturi can deal with the warranty work efficiently long enough to force the Chinese to get the quality up to snuff. It may even be that Air Venturi ...

Re: Am I too old?

. . . is there any hope for someone older to get to international competition level? Never too old. I recently won the title "Old-blind-shaky-guy-with-a-bad-attitude," at the international level. That sounds like an award I could compete for. I've got the Old-blind-shaky part down pat, bu...

Don Nygord shot on the US Olympic team in his 50's, and won a gold medal in the Pan Am Games at 55.

Empty Chamber Indicators / Dry Fire Plugs for Pardini & Benelli .22's

I'm slowly getting a bunch of shooting related 3D print files posted on Thingiverse. A while back, I printed up a bunch of ECI/dry-fire plugs for Benelli and Pardini .22 pistols used by college team I help coach. The students have a knack for breaking them, losing them, or dropping them over the fir...

Re: MatchGun MG2 Carrier Maintenance

I have my 3D printed MG2 slide cover bench block up on Thingiverse now: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6662216 The Summary includes notes on how to use it. It's labeled so you drive the pins in the right direction, and it will accommodate pistols that have one of Jon Eulette's optics rails instal...

Re: MG4 double fire

Interesting. Sounds like they cut the slot too deep. If you dry fire a lot, the back end of the notch is what prevents the firing pin from going too far forward. That shouldn't be an issue in a centerfire pistol, but it's important in the .22's to prevent damage to the breech face.

Re: Why is Pardini K12 unpopular

To echo what William said, the Morini came out in 1992, the Steyr LP10 in 2000, and the Pardini K12 in 2012. The Morini & the Steyr have a very well established track record at the highest levels, and the design changes have been pretty minimal over time. Shooters at that level took a while to g...

Re: MatchGun MG2 Carrier Maintenance

Working on the slide cover is a challenge. I've had to do it three times on my first MG2, which now has over 20,000 rounds through it. My second MG2 has only about 8,000 rounds through it. So far I haven't had to replace anything up top. I do have a 3D printed bench block design for working on the s...

Re: MG4 double fire

Sounds like you had an early pistol. All the firing pins I've seen have the bevel.

Out of curiosity, where did it break? The weakest points would be the cut in the middle for the retaining pin, and the thin section at the front that strikes the rim.

Re: Score progression

Step 1: forget about scores for now. Most beginners will develop the ability to shoot a group (of sorts) fairly quickly, but patterns will begin to emerge, where you have a bunch of shots clustered in one area, but the group is elongated, or has shots outside of the main cluster. People don't tend t...

Re: Miracle Cure for Fussy Benelli .22's!

Have you checked the length of the firing pin? This is exactly the problem we had until I found out about the length problem with the newer pins. They should be very close to 31.1 mm from the tip to the front of the head, assuming you have an older pistol. The other thing to check is that the broken...

Re: Benelli .22 Magazine Maintenance

In my experience, both buffer designs tend to deteriorate in a way where chunks break off before the tube ever gets that far back. I've been using the LGI buffers for a long time without any particular issues. I've only recently obtained some new factory ones, and I'm curious to see how they hold up...

Re: MG4 double fire

I've had to replace quite a few parts over the years, either because they wore prematurely, or broke. They've made a lot of design changes in the MG2 to address those issues, but only time will tell how successful they were. I have had to replace the following parts due to wear or breakage: Bullet i...
