Re: Converting "boys rifle" to practice smallbore

Remington made a whole line of rifles from this same action. The 510 was about the bottom and the 513 was sort of a smallbore trainer. There was also a 521t that was sort of a jr target version of the same rifle. As an 8-9 year old, my first rifle was a 521T and I remember it having a Lyman sight o...

Re: Converting "boys rifle" to practice smallbore

Depending on the condition of the receiver (does it have a bunch of holes drilled in it already?) there may be some merit to trying to track down a factory 510P rear sight. (SARCO or NUMRICH mentioned earlier). If the receiver has not been drilled, milled or otherwise molested it might have more col...

Re: Converting "boys rifle" to practice smallbore

To my knowledge, the Remington 510 came in two versions, A 510A and a 510P. The 510A had true squirrel rifle sights with a simple post front sight mounted in a dovetail and a leaf type rear sight with a notch about 2/3 of the way back on the barrel. The 510P had a partridge type front sight, still a...

Re: Converting "boys rifle" to practice smallbore

Cheeseburger, While an interesting idea, I will come down firmly with @Tim S and say, most any project to convert a Remington 510 to a competition rifle would be uneconomical both in terms of money and time invested. A few years back I restored a Model 510 which I then gave to a friend with two smal...

Re: Valmet Champion Rifles

Have not seen or heard of a Finnish Lion for quite some time. (Decades) While I am not super familiar with them, from my limited knowledge they were quite heavy. Just based on their reputation for being hefty, (15-17 pounds) unless your beginner is 6ft plus and likely male i would look for something...

Re: Smallbore Rifle Options

Some of this will also depend on which accessories you are talking about: Anything for the foreend rail will transfer to other manufacturers guns. While there are subtle differences, the rear sight rail for all the guns is 11mm so rear sights are fairly universal. (There are some oddball cases that ...

Re: Anschutz 1907 .22 LR Rifle with Butt Plate and Sights (Right Handed)

OK, I get that it has 1907 stamped into the top of the barrel but...

This is a model 1914. A 1907 barreled action (Lighter or standard barrel) bolted into a 1914 stock. The 1914 stock is a little smaller (say 3/4 or 7/8 scale) than the full size 1913 stock. A great gun for smaller shooters!

Re: Butt plate for Walther KK300 alu

Martin, I have a 300 Anatomic, the butt mounting system has similarities but not identical to your 300 Alu. For your rifle, the MEC plate mounts the two pins (probably 10mm dia) directly to the base of the butt plate. My solution would be to start with a piece of 1/4" (6mm) aluminum plate and a...

Re: Your dream 10m range?

There are a lot of good thoughts and ideas here. The one other thing is you have to keep all of this in the scope of realistic budgets. Not just for building or creating the range but also for maintaining it. Clearly the bigger the building, the bigger the capital cost but also the greater the month...

Re: Your dream 10m range?

Adequate lighting as Richard144 has mentioned is a great start. I don't think I would go 100% electronic target as it can be useful to be able to shoot at paper, both for testing purposes and also, for brand new shooters is is easier to have something to take home and put on the fridge. At least be ...

Re: Cylinder date

It means that if you try to shoot a match after May 2028 with that cylinder, a judge will order a bailiff to whack your peepee. Thanks! I need a good laugh this AM. :) To Evansmount: I will say it was 15 years ago, ISSF decided that air cylinders more than ten years old were a public safety hazard....

Re: 2025-2028 Rifle technical changes - anything new?

This is the $128,000 question. We are in that time of the year, just at the beginning of another Olympic quad where if significant rules changes are going to be made, they tend to occur now. Additionally, it is usually Nov/Dec where rules, even with minor changes, tend to be released with an 'effect...

Re: Tec-HRO Fanatic Forearm Width

Hey 'Greyhounds,

While I did not mention it, changing the profile had skittered through my addled brain. Nice solution.

Where are you getting the forend rail? In the era of aluminum stocks fewer and fewer supply housed carry rail.

Thanks

Re: Tec-HRO Fanatic Forearm Width

My Gemini has a scale alongbthe fore-end, but fairly coarse, I settled on a strip of masking tape. It's not as pretty as laser etching, but much cheaper, and surprisingly durable. Masking (or similar) tape gets it done as well. There are a number of options for off the shelf stocks these days. As t...

Re: Tec-HRO Fanatic Forearm Width

There are a few stocks out there from mild to wild in terms of price point. Tec-Hro being more reasonable. This one from SE has caught my eye https://www.shootingequipment.de/en/Weapons-accessory/Stocks/Small-big-bore-stocks/SE-stock-shape-H.html and if I ever find the right barreled action, I might...

Re: Changing risers on FWB 800X…?

First, my little rant about how for the money we spend on these rifles they could do a better job with the strength of the metals where adjustments are constantly made. A steel (stainless steel) screw into aluminum threads is pretty much a recipe for failure. In my experience, the metal used for mou...

Re: Question for the Coaches

dude, the OP wrote “as long as his arm.” I think he already found a coach. If he had not, your comment would have been appropriate and correct. In shooting sports a coach’s gender is not indicative of their abilities. If you read my intro clause, I noted that OP has specifically identified the male...
