Thanks for the information. I won't let the guys at the range tease me too much about my cheap sight. Most of them don't shoot very well anyways. :-) I'm eagerly awaiting a set of Rink grips for my 41. I opted for the upswept option on the grips, so I'll really have no excuse for not shooting well o...

I've managed to put a few hundred more rounds of CCI SV through the 41. My repair seems like a distant memory as there hasn't been a hiccup since. The 41 has performed flawlessly with the CCI - groups from a bench rest are very tight. My off-hand groups are another story... I've cleaned the pistol a...

Just to let you guys know, Smith and Wesson did a very good job getting the pistol back quickly. Two weeks (including shipping time) from start to finish. A message from FedEx the day before the pistol was due to arrive was helpful. Smith and Wesson wound up replacing the barrel, as noted on the wor...

Thanks for the information - very helpful stuff. I'm much more optimistic today, as I've just gotten an email from Smith and Wesson with a FedEx call tag attached. S&W included detailed instructions on how to ship and FedEx is willing to pick up at my door. I guess I wasn't giving Smith and Wess...

It would be nice if there was a barrel tip, but unfortunately the rail is incorrectly machined.

I'm hoping that I also experience the same two-week (or so) turnaround. I appreciate your responses - just sharing my concerns with fellow bullseye pistol enthusiasts. :-)

An update: Following the advice of others, I called Smith & Wesson yesterday to have a call tag sent. The guy from Customer Service couldn't get me off the phone quick enough, telling me to fill out an email Return Authorization Request. Not a great start. I'm gonna give them 'til the end of the...

A few more pictures. I assume S&W will replace the barrel rather than re-machining the rail. Again, if anyone has experience with S&W warranty service procedures, I'd love to hear your experience. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Here's a pic of the Performance Center level of quality. Now that I know about the defect, it looks obvious. In my defense, when taking in the whole pistol at the gun store counter, I didn't think to check the basic machining of the frame...

Okay... here's an update for you guys (and not a good one)

It looks like my new pistol has to be returned to Smith & Wesson for warranty work. I'd like to take the blame for not noticing the defect, but in my defense, it isn't something I would have expected. I'm going to take a picture and post it, but I'll try to describe it until then. My 41 is a Dav...

Finally got the pistol. I figured it would be prudent to clean it first (can't hurt, right?) and I'm glad I did. Thanks again for the advice. When I drew the first pad out of the barrel it had an evil-looking shard of steel on it. Although I'm sure the pistol would have survived, I assume such thing...

Thanks for the link - that's a great resource. I hope that my 41 isn't that fussy about ammo, but we'll see. I think I can pick up the pistol tomorrow at my FFL. I'm like a kid before Christmas.

I saw American Eagle ammo on special at my local range...

Thanks for the link. Always good to see pictures. The 41 looks like a very well-engineered pistol.

Thanks for your replies, guys. I'm going to take a look at the standard-velocity ammo my local range has in stock. Come to think of it, I haven't even seen Blazer ammo on the shelf there for some time (I've got a pretty big stockpile, so I haven't bought ammo in a while). I'll probably go with CCI s...

Got a new Model 41 - basic questions

I've been searching the forums, but I thought I'd ask everyone just to see if anything has changed. Asking really basic stuff here, but I'm just being careful. Do I need to clean a factory-new pistol before shooting? I assume high velocity ammo (ie Blazer) is a no-no for the 41. Is plain old CCI sta...

Thanks for your replies, guys. I've bought other used firearms with mixed results. Although I wouldn't rule out a used purchase, at these prices it would depend on the situation. To be honest, I think my "problem" is like a golfer with a new club; every duffer imagines that the latest &quo...

First post - another "should I upgrade?" question

Hi everyone. I've been reading the forum for a while now, and finally mustered the courage to ask a rather basic (and often-asked) question... For whatever reason, I think my modified BuckMark is holding me back. I've never seen/held a pistol like a Morini or Feinwerkbau and there are no dealers in ...
