WOW!! Robin that is amazing. I have never heard anyone say that before. Rob is absolutely right. An athlete must become consciously competent ( that is be able to do something while thinking about how to do it) before one becomes unconsciously competent. That is being able to do something without th...

Yogi Berra (American baseball player) who is famous for his lack of ability with the language said, "90 percent of baseball is half mental". But for international rifle shooting "98 percent of shooting is 98 percent mental". With all due respect to the other posters here there ju...

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth I shot both styles and liked the LGR a lot. I found that the shoulder muscles that pulled the lever back on the FWB were some of the same muscles used in shooting the position. The chest muscles used in cocking the LGR are not used in shooting the position so I d...

Interesting discussion. A topic that will never be settled. My 2 cents worth are as follows: Tim don't be an ass. Almost every one I know needs to shoot foulers after each cleaning. Some say it is why they don't clean often. I think it is more likely they are tired and lazy at the end of the day and...

prone

A nine ring hold tells me your position is not tight enough. My suggestion is forget the SCATT and get a scope to gauge your hold. Make the sling tighter, relax EVERY muscle and work on getting your hold smaller. You should be able to hold less than a bullet hole at 100 yds. Another issue is pulse b...

Kneeling

Robin is right about the Holy Grail. But when you find a great kneeling position you would rather have that than the Grail. Kneeling is a very technical position requiring lots of work to perfect but when you do it is a thing of beauty. Nothing more exciting than shooting your first 100 in kneeling....

Kneeling

Good news- When you learn it, it is almost as stable as prone.

Bad news - It always hurts. I shot kneeling about 30 years and eventually my knee gave up and I had to stop shooting kneeling after the surgery on it.

I hate to say this but you picked the wrong hobby to take up if you want to pinch pennies. For example the 200- 450 Euro rifles you suggested are the same price of a good sight set. Small bore prone indoors at 50 meters is a precision sport. I would suggest you see what others in your club have that...

Excuse me but if I understand what you said, you shoot at a wooden block with the target taped to it. If that is the case I wish I was your eye doctor. As the mom in "Christmas Story", said" You are going to put your eye out with that thing". Extremely dangerous. There are a lot ...

OK. You are going to think I have lost my mind but if you are building a smallbore prone gun. A 18 or 19 series Anschutz or Winchester 52 b,c,d,or e is the best choice. The Winchester has a short bolt throw that makes it eaiser to load in prone. The most important step to a winning belly gun is not ...

Vision problems

I have tried it all. My sight is very bad uncorrected. The best solution is old style hard contacts. The downside to this is a small grain of dust can be very painful. The up side is that these are the best way to correct vision to the maximum extent possible. The best my doctor could do with glasse...

A few random thoughts on prone. 1. Comfort? Really? You want comfort get a glass of good scotch and an soft easy chair. You want to shoot 10s prepare to hurt. 2. The left elbow should be almost as far out as possible, with the forearm at the required angle. This allows the position to be as low as p...

Been a while since I studied statistics, (about 3 decades) but it has been my experience that group shape is much more important than group size. Now we all know that size DOES matter in all things but I would much rather have a round group with consistently distributed shots than one with a smaller...

eley test

Thanks Tim. you are right . It is Laupa in Az that has a 50 and 100 integrated range.

I still think bed the gun and retest. If it doesn't get better rebarrel it. I think that buying any of these ammos for this rifle would be a waste of money.

Eley Test

Excuse my ignorance of the process but I have a few questions. Is this test of Eley Red? Is the distance 50 or 100? Group size center to center in mm? If this is at 50 mt, c to c in mm scrap the rifle and start over. If this is at 100 yd most of the groups are ok some good but nothing you can win Ca...

This is the kind on crazy things that go on when you have 3 separate sanctioning bodies, 2 disciplines and bad communications. Total chaos. This whole thing could collapse of its own weight if they don't lose some of the attitudes about each other and standardize the shooting.

You might check with Alex Sitman at Masterclassstocks.com

He does both high power and small bore stocks and shooters have had great success with his stocks. Of course he would want to sell you one of his. But he might also bed your high power gun in your smallbore stock.

If this is the gun you are thinking about: http://www.chesebrorifles.com/LEFT-HAND-ANSCHUTZ-1813-IN-PRONE-STOCK-A-4-46.htm I would urge you to compare it to a semi-comparable new Anschutz 1907 for a "mere" $2035. A better rifle brand new. I really don't know where this guy gets the idea th...
