Re: Free pistol advice

Mark I am a rifle shooter but I have to say we all open ourselves to ridicule every time we step on a range, no matter what the skill level. Also in a rifle I would stay away from CCI and stick with cheap Eley or SK.

Re: anschutz rear sight question

I have found that a small piece of target with 2 circular arrows, one counter clockwise and one clockwise labeled helps new shooters. All this talk of labels, hands, and thumbs, ect is just bs. It doesn't take much shooting until the sight correction becomes as automatic as opening the bolt. New sho...

Re: Winchester 52D -Still Competitive in Smallbore Prone?

OK Ron ... Not hording. But I would wonder why someone needs more than one prone gun at a time, and that is experience talking . I have had as many as 6 at once. I was interested in your comment on Hollister stocks. I am from the East and didn't know Herb as well as I would have liked. I didn't know...

I believe that stock was designed by someone who used too many recreational pharmaceuticals back in the 60's.

Re: How to buy a Bleiker in the US

I would be reluctant to buy one because no one on this side of the ocean has one or works on them. I guess that argues for buying 2 like Bob suggested so you would have a spare.

Re: USJOC QUESTION

First there are about 20 different Junior Olympics in American shooting. I don't understand it. Don't confuse the sporter air rules with the USA Shooting or NRA rules. Second I can't believe a coach would suggest a shooter use a hand stop in standing for any thing other than a weight. If it helped, ...

Re: Which scope/reticle for 50 meters and 50 ft?

My $0.02 worth (I will send you an invoice) is that for position a lower magnification is better. Somewhere around 15 X . For outdoor prone bigger is better. I have used a fixed magnification Leupold at 24 x with a 50 adapter for position but would rather have had a lower magnification. Outdoors I u...

Re: Back problems for hardcore 3P smallbore & air rifle shoo

Back in the old days when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I shot standing 3-5 times a week we would bend and twist our backs in the extreme. Many shooters also hung weights on the end of the stock in the hope that the additional weight would dampen the sway of the rifle. That was before the advent of...

Tim I am not an eye dr. but I should have been . With the problems I have had with my eyes I would have saved money over the years. One thing I disagree with in your post is trying to focus your eye between the front sight and the target. This was certainly the thinking some years ago. However the c...

Re: Now we don't want to hurt feelings?

This has been the rules in the hemisphere shooting championships as long as they have been doing them. Since sometime in the 70's I think they started. Back then it was harder in rifle to make the US Team than it was to win an Olympic medal. America would have swept the rifle and shotgun medals and ...

Re: Winchester 52D -Still Competitive in Smallbore Prone?

Ron that is interesting stuff about the Winchester triggers. I would say that you are hording Karl's triggers though, maybe you could turn loose of a couple of them. Didn't Karl make the triggers for the 52 International or is that the same as the E? I used Karl's triggers on a 52 prone gun and a 14...

Re: Winchester 52D -Still Competitive in Smallbore Prone?

Interesting stuff... Mike I would be interested in one of those 54 actions for $500. At least an 18 or 19. The 14 actions are too slow compared to a 18 or 52. And as I said I would not shoot a 52 with a Winchester trigger. Also another thing to consider is the history of the action. When the CMP too...

Re: Noise in the World Cup Finals

Sadly the powers that be in ISSF have decided, that in an effort to placate the IOC and keep shooting in the Olympic program, it must no longer be a precision sport. The new rules in finals events especially have made a joke of the sport.

Re: Back problems for hardcore 3P smallbore & air rifle shoo

Paul I don't think it is the shooting standing that is the problem. It is a combination of the heavy bags and gun cases that we carry and the crappy bunks at Camp Perry that have ruined our backs.

Re: Anschutz Zeller left hand model 54

My 2 C. The barrel markings have always been a problem for Anschutz. It is the action not the barrel that makes it a 54. It is the stock that makes it a 14,18,19 - 07,10,11, or 13. Except that the 07 is a light barrel. And of course the jump from 14 to 18 was a big change in actions that probably wa...

Re: Best Off the Rack Coat?

You could pay through the nose for a Kurt Thune and they are great coats. My suggestion though is to contact Champion Shooters Supply or Champions Choice. They both sell good coats that they have made. They are not too expensive and would be a good starting point. They are both easy to deal with too...

Re: Lefty Advice

Bob I used to have a BSA Intl. that was the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. And i think many leftys have used them. However, there are some problems. The cheek piece is not adjustable and is too low. It is extremely barrel heavy. It is designed for prone not position. I would run from a BSA f...

I am a rifle shooter so pistol may be different. However, the book written about the mental aspect of shooting would fill a large book shelf. I would recommend starting with Lanny Bassham's With Wining in Mind and continue to every thing you can find on the subject of sport psychology. After about 1...
