Re: 300m Free rifle

Likely have a tough time shooting the rapid stages with a single shot prone gun... For mid-range prone and long-range there is no rapid fire stage. Though I've thrown rounds down range with my smallbore prone gun almost as fast when my condition is there! I've never seen an XTC match that uses the ...

Re: 300m Free rifle

You can leave the butt-hook on for NRA Mid-Range and Long-Range matches. You'll get some looks and even a person or two to challenge you, since most last looked at a rule book in 1983, but the rules now specifically allow them for Any Rifle matches (which most Mid/Long matches are). At Camp Perry i...

Re: 300m Free rifle

Almost as importantly is where do you shoot it? Are there any matches in America? NRA Mid-Range matches (or long range, depending on your chosen caliber/desire of wind challenge), are certainly open to you, too. Just gotta take the butt hook off before you lie down to those! You can leave the butt-...

Re: USAS Winter Air Gun Rule Update

How can they use the 2017 rules when they haven't been published yet, and it's only 2016? The link they give is for the rules summary, not "newly published" rules. That doesn't seem like a very solid, or legitimate, way to enforce rules! From what I can find online, the latest PUBLISHED IS...

Re: New ISSF Rules - Partial Summary

I think the problem with the currently available variable dioptre irises is that they magnify to varying degrees. Wasn't there some rumor of an adjustable dioptre that WASN'T magnifying undergoing ISSF approval - or was I dreaming? K. All lenses have magnification. Even a single lens on eye glasses...

Re: New ISSF Rules - Partial Summary

Just like your glasses is a single lens ... not making a tele/microscope. Again, I think that the rational behind this is to get away from the contraption that are shooting classes ... not for any purpose other than to clean up the view (for TV) of the shooters faces. People start playing games her...

Re: New ISSF Rules - Partial Summary

Can someone help? I see one of the rules likely to change is the shooting glasses. I had high hopes this was going to allow us to use a monocular type glass attached to the iris. After reading the rule it says "inserted" not attached, I hope this is a typo....... My opinion is that it is ...

Re: Definition of a "firearm"

The United States Gun Control Act defines it like this: "The term “firearm” means (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; (C) any firearm...

Re: tight spot in barrel

I've won a national championship and set national records with one! Justin Tracy Justin, did that barrel have tight spots too? I hadn't realised the abrasive-coated bullets could be used for anything other than polishing rough spots. I can't say I remember any tight spots, but it was over a dozen y...

Take it from someone who has actually done it several times.
You've fire lapped 22 match barrels?

Re: Spotting scope placement

How many, if any, of you right handers put the spotting scope on your right for prone matches? It seems easier to hold position with this placement. I agree with the others, it's bad for the aiming eye to go back and forth between scope and sights. It actually messes up my vision pretty quickly. Wi...

Simple solution... don't bed the action!

Re: Bee sting tuner

Tom, Tony's theory doesn't suggest that both of your rifles will be in tune with the weight of the tuner in identical positiones.Tube length calculated by prx + tuner setting (which will be different for every rifle) will let you achieve the best results. All the aspects you have mentioned do matte...

Re: Bee sting tuner

Tom, Stories aren't proof, many agreed with the node theory too. Lets say I have two Anschutz 54's with 27 inch (690 mm) barrels and BeeSting tuners, one a 1913 profile and the other an 1813 profile. Does your theory suggest they will both be in tune with the weight in identical positions? It would...

I have one of Guy Starik's long And found it works well. I have another ordered for a second rifle As I think about the tube/tuner, Guy does his by a formula. Others do it by the, well, whatever. As for cleaning, a nylon shotgun brush from Brownell's does the trick Mark Trew I think anybody who say...

Re: Camp Perry Entry Fees 2016

Maybe they are trying to see just how angry they can get competitors. This seems to run contradictory to "foster and promote the shooting sports". Unless by promoting they mean to irritate people so they talk about it more? Maybe each year they are just going to pick another event and have...

Re: Scope options for smallbore....

I don't see why you would need to have the sight rail extension, unless it were a very long scope. Alan Why? Because I have a short buttstock to get my hand close to the loading port and perhaps a long neck. An Annie is not scope friendly. Once the rings are on the rail, for smallbore, they stay pu...

Re: Scope options for smallbore....

Some people think I am nuts (including Justin Tracy, Nancy Tompkins, and Eric U) but I have always used a Weaver T36. Personally I only ever had a problem with the magnification the first time I shot with it, but I soon got used to it. That being said, I have never shot standing with a scope, but I...

Re: Scope options for smallbore....

Are you going to be shooting prone or position? For position shooting the 6.5x20 EFR is great, except for the crosshairs/dot are too small for holding a gun. But you can have that changed to something more useful for not shooting off a bench. The variable power is nice as you can dial it down for st...

Not sure Sergei Martynov using "....the classic round 54 Annie's in wood stocks" still holds. Oh, I had no idea be got a Bleiker. Thank you for the correction. I don't know what his go-to gun is at this point but at Rocky Mountains last month he was shooting a round action Anschutz in a G...
