Re: Walther CP3 Match MV - rebuild

This is helpful; I have two non-working (non-sealing) cylinders for my CP-3 and have been wondering if/how they could be fixed. Fortunately I have two good ones that show no signs of pressure losses.

Re: help me with chosing

In sincere defense of the GSP Expert: Though a slowly-aging duffer whose scores have been drifting slowly-downward, I find that the GSP has been extraordinarily reliable and more than sufficiently accurate: I just finished the sixth, 27-match, season of league bullseye shooting with zero alibis…and ...

Re: Smith&Wesson 52 unforgiving...

As an experienced—but definitely not elite—gallery and fun-outdoor-match competitor, I can say that my Model 52 is a beautiful pistol, a pleasure to shoot, and capable of excellent accuracy. But it is spectacularly unreliable with both factory loads and reloads that span a range of Bullseye (2.6-3 g...

I live about 75 miles from Earl's…and I believe anything other than 5 rounds is a special item. I do have one 10-rounder which I use in Slowfire for the US Bullseye National Match Course. Yes, pre-load the chamber and then insert the magazine for 6 rounds.

This is an interesting and ever-relevant topic…since all of us are aging. And sooner or later our scores will age with us. But the topic also asks: Why do we shoot? The drive to excel is surely important, but is that the reason? [Momentary diversion while we ponder that question: I know a rower who ...

NE Connecticut pistol

You're quite near the convergence of three Indoor Gallery leagues...Pine Tree (RI), Metro League (greater Hartford), and New London County's northern clubs...one of which has been the NL County League champion for a few years. There are quite a few clubs! And good people!

Nice and shiny and clean, crisp threads. Though once I had a bit of wood-chip that fell in/on the cylinder threads which provided exciting white vapor for a second or two.

I have a CP-3, but... I do use the hand (circular, palm-sized handle) hex wrench when attaching the cylinder to the tank adaptor. Yes, it's a bit tighter on removal after I close off the tank valve. I do use gloves to keep my fingers cozy and free from CO2 spray, which can happen. The only time I've...

A match-grade CO2 pistol should not be dismissed...and the big gas bottle may come with it since the owner may no longer need it. Filling should be available at welding-supply places and a big tank will handle many, many cylinder recharges. For the big tank, the internal "siphon" is necess...

I have a GSP Expert also; it came from Earl's, originally. Since I use an Ultradot, I can't really say much about the sight notches other than that, if one seems better for your eyesight and lenses, use that one. I have had truly exceptional reliability/durability from this firearm with Remington an...

Rover and GaryN are correct. I have a CP3: If I may add...wear light gloves to keep from getting cold hands. Do a lot of weighing (I have a postal scale that reads in ounces and grams) to get comfy with the process. Write stuff down. I made up a cylinder-charge sheet so I can keep track of when I ch...

Bullseye Match Command Times

I called three relays of a 600-point indoor match a couple of days ago. In a few cases people were loading just one (presumably the reliable one) magazine. All they have to do is give me a little heads up and I will give them plenty of time before "Is the firing line ready?" And...I will k...

For an experienced match shooter in an indoor-match environment, the triggerguard "rule" is probably not an absolute necessity in a range situation in which many other variables are tightly controlled. You all may have seen the following at your indoor ranges: Range freshly painted before ...

Just a word in favor of Sparky's comments re NRA and its funding. On the pistol-competition side, ISSF matches around here are just about invisible unless you are shooting for an (invisible) college team in my state (Connecticut). On the other hand, NRA Bullseye trundles along fairly well with sever...

I've had my GSP Expert for three years of league competition (27 300-matches/year, plus a handful of 900's) with zero pistol-related alibis; just one bad cartridge. I do keep the feed ramp clean. Good luck, good karma, clean living...you choose!

I could add that I have had an Ultradot on a (B-Square rib mount) for my High Standard Victor for at least 15 years as well. No sight or mount problems at all, and many League matches/practices fired.

I have had excellent service (3 years) from the Ultradot/Earl's mount on my GSP Expert. Zero match alibis (knock wood loudly) or sighting oddities.

Browning Medalist

The Medalist is a truly beautiful firearm...one that was far out of my reach back in my High Standard S-101 days. Don't drill any holes in it!
Best, --j (88 slow fire tonight; don't ask about the rest!)
