Re: Scatt system

Perhaps a bit late now, but what do you want from scatt i.e. how do you think using it will improve your shooting ? Presumably you had a plan in mind when you bought it ?

Re: Fist shot is always poor.

It's poor because you both let it be and expect it to be. I.e. it's all in your head and under your control. You need to shift all thoughts away from the match and purely focus on executing the technique right, i.e. have the same mental approach as you do in sighters, training etc.

Re: How to turn off absorber totally, Steyr LP10

I've read most of the above thread, but I can't say all of it. I would state that you will get far worse precision and acuracy from your gun with the absorber off. It's not a case of making it like an LP2, it behaves differently. Mine broke a couple of years back and it became unusable. From shootin...

Re: Free pistol arm/head positioning

You are right in that there are two distinct styles. In general you'll see either the straight style or the head down shoulder up style. My feeling is there's minimal difference between the two and the shoulder up head down is more to do with better recoil absorption. So you may well find the shoote...

Re: practice ammo

Be very wary of using two types of ammo, one 'practice' the other 'competition'. It's a bad practice as shooters tend to blame the poor ammo for errors in training, and then get over excited (anxious) when they pull out the special 'competiton' ammo for the matches. It's far better to get a consiste...

Re: Noise in the World Cup Finals

It's not so much noise that bothers me it's the stomping. On a concrete floor, it's fine. But I shot in an air pistol final at the OTC, and it was on the second floor, that actually hanging and not supported from below so it bounces. You really had to time your shots in that final. That's a differe...

Re: Noise in the World Cup Finals

It's a new game, new rules and it makes for a much more spectator, and TV, friendly event. There's no reason shooting has to be quiet, as a shooter on the line you soon get used to it. As David said its much worse being on a quiet range when you get a sudden noise, if its noisy all the time, you don...

Re: 10m air pistol advice

It can also be a perception thing, the movement is the same, it just looks worse, but as others said, just keep training. Another thing you can try is to live fire on the back of a card as well as with it the normal way around. With the card back-to-front, you shouldn't lose the sights at all, and y...

Re: Sling suggestions..........

As Eric rightly points out, the sling should be tight but not too tight. There's a fine line between getting it right and wrong, go too tight and not only will it hurt a lot, but more importantly, your hold will open up. It's one of the areas where scatt (or similar) can come in handy to help evalua...

Re: Air Pistol Falling plate

I don't think its especially popular. In the UK we shoot it a bit but then we have fewer options given our cartridge pistol bans. I suspect if we had .22 target pistols, almost no one would have the guns required to shoot it.

Re: Flinching

Bryan, Can you not get to someone or a coaching squad that uses scatt ? There's plenty of options in your neck of the woods. You could also do with a coach fully evaluating your position whilst shooting, you certainly cannot tell if it's a 'loose shoulder' by looking at a shot card, whatever your cl...

Re: Psychology and the ever increasing perfectionist ramblin

Perfection isn't only 10.9 - that's just a score centric vision of it. There are and never will be any perfect shooters but there's some phenomenally good ones. The solution for the worlds best, is the same as for all of us, setting realistic but stretching goals.

Re: Independant trigger finger movement ? ? ?

In my humble opinion, "For Me" I don't think my index finger is capable of working independent of the other digits. I can minimize it but there is always some change in tension. I grip hard and that minimizes the impact of index finger but there is still movement. Gripping hard is most li...

The current wisdom is that a sideways on stance is the best purely in terms of the theoretical body mechanics for shooting air and free pistol. But of course you can't ignore actual body mechanics as all shooters are different (something even some top coaches seem to overlook). So find a comfortable...

What I've always wondered was, why can't one take an off the rack budget double canvas coat and have it tailored by a specialist or perhaps even someone who does leather alterations? You can, that's exactly what I did with my shooting jacket. I am though in the UK where we have an excellent lady wh...

I wouldn't worry about the lighting specs - most clubs are way under those limits, I think mine is less than 50% of those values. The image though is very helpful. Essentially you want a well lit target with good overall light throughout the facility, with no glare or bright lights obvious to the sh...

Twisting of the torso is not a good idea so feet, hips shoulders should be in the same plane. The shooting position should be as stable as possible and should require as little effort to hold it as possible. Adding in twist requires muscle effort which is therefore not ideal. Spencer there's a lot o...
