If you're correct then wooden stocks will be illegal for ISSF shooting from Jan 1st 2013

For stocks typically on the market and very generally:

Aluminium :

More adjustable
More stable

Wood:

Cheaper

Of course as soon as you start digging into the choice in detail, it gets much more complicated.

That's true, but I'm not convinced the distinction is sufficient.

It also begs the question of what exactly the "barn door" phrase means.

Yes. That's a lot better balanced that your other post.

Like you I have a minor irritant, in this case people trash talking a discipline which at least they are free to take or leave. Not everyone has the choice.

So using your idea we should get rid of all the handgun events because none of them use large calibre pistols and it's all about recoil? Maybe you should be on the IPSC forum, that's what they're all about. They get turned on by big bangs and flashes even if they can't hit the broad side of a barn....

The sights sit a distance above the barrel; the larger the distance (higher sights) the greater the effect on the shot if the rifle is Canted. NO! Not this old chestnut again. We've been through this before here or on the old Ray's site. For single distance shooting the height of the line of sight ...

It has been 20+ years since I have had my hands on an LGR so my memory of these exact screws is faded. There are a number of screws on some of the older rifles where the slot made an amazing fit with either a 1DeutschMark or 2 DeutschMark coin. Both those coins, and the 5DM if I recall correctly ha...

Nester,

I'd recommend backing the eyeshade locking ring away from the sight body.

Otherwise it may interfere with your sight adjustment.

I've always thought these were nice rifles. Has anyone ever developed a more modern stock for them? I'm thinking something along the lines of an aluminum or tube design -- and maybe some way to mount more modern sights (like the Centra 10-50). Just saying. . . . Jason Not mine, I hasten to say, but...

It's the year code in the proof mark. I think AF is 2005. (A=0, B=1 & so on)

This is one reason why the ISSF have shelved the idea for removing shooting trousers in the standing position. Is that definitely the status of this issue? There was a big debate about this a few years ago & IIRC it was supposed to be reviewed after the 2008 Olympics. I presume that review neve...
