Yeah, that's what made me think of the rule. (Well, the NRA's version of it) The first thing I thought was, now there's something that actually exists that would be prohibited by that rule. But any idea where the rule came from originally? Was there an actual system back in the 80s, or why did the r...

The origin of the "programmed aiming device" rule?
"Any aiming device programmed to activate the firing mechanism is prohibited;" Anyone know the story behind that rule? It (and similar) appear in rule books for all sorts of different disciplines (including all the NRA ones I can find), and my guess is that it originally came from the ISSF...

I don't know what he's actually using, but I've got a set from Bob Jones in Arizona that look very similar.

Basically, they've got very long rods for the nose piece, and Jones bends them so that they're offset way to the (right handed) shooter's left.

The advice the local HS coach gives his shooters (who usually shoot at 50 ft) when they come to the prone matches (50y and 100y) is to use their 50ft zero at 50 yards, then come up 50 clicks from 50y to 100y. They're usually pretty close. My sights are nominally calibrated in minutes, and I come up ...

Eliseo (competition shooting stuff) is exporting stocks to Australia. But at least one UK shooter (Laurie Holland, or something similar, I believe) who is a huge fan of the Eliseo stocks hasn't been able to get any more of them for quite some time. He got one for a Barnard action, but very shortly a...

I've got an AN-1 with a 1963-production 54 in it. I really like it. The barrel in it is extremely heavy, so it's a bit cumbersome offhand, but that's not the stock's problem. The floating action installation method seems to benefit quite a bit from a tuner, like the one Eliseo sells. Also, you'll wa...

I've got an older (1963 production) 54 action in an AN-1, and it's extremely comfortable for me--but, I started shooting competitively with the AR15 in service rifle class, and conventional wooden stocks have never felt right to me. The high sights are a nice feature, but you might need to keep an e...

And so I can better follow the answer asked of Eric... When smallbore shooters talk about clicks per ring, are they talking about the number of clicks to turn a scratch N into a scratch N+1? or the number of clicks to move from a scratch 10 at 3 into a scratch 10 at 9? Or some other variation that I...

One feature I wish my SCATT had--enough that I could be swayed to buy something in the $500 range-- is better data export. I'd like to be able to get a dump of either the raw points of the trace (I can write a script to turn than into the parameters I want to analyze) or all the parameters the SCATT...

If your Phoenix is a side-mount, go with that. (If it's the top mount version, there's probably a way to make it work*) You'd just need a $40-50 base that you can get from Champion's Choice. For the front you'll want a tunnel and iris--but you know that from match rifle Since you'll be shooting the ...

First, did you try whatever combination is showing on the un-moved lock on the adjusted one? And sorry for insulting your intelligence if you already did... sort of the equivalent of asking if you plugged in your computer :) Is it a three digit combination? (three tumblers of 0-9 each?) If so, that ...

Weak extraction in a 1963 Anschutz 54
I'm having what I think is weak extraction from my 1963-manufactured 54 Supermatch. The result is a fired case lying in the action about half the time, and a successfully ejected case the other half. It appears that when the case is pulled all the way to the ejector, the case is ejected. But the res...

I've got a similar issue... Bart, how would you go about getting the position to be solid under recoil once you move it to the right? I shoot mostly high power and have a very inline position. It feels really stable and controls recoil well, but when I try to get the gun a little to the right of my ...
