Not to highjack the thread, but why would you not want to use the same pistol you use to shoot SP with?

It would seem like "learning" a new pistol and a new course of fire would add an unneccesary element to the learning curve.

Awhile back we got a hold of a surplus romanian .22 training rifle from Big Five for $69. After cleaning off the cosmolene and a little tweaking it is an amazingly accurate rifle. Add a boresnake and a brick of Stingers and your ready to give far more expensive rifles a run for their money at the ju...

Ammunition supplier question

Has anyone here had any experience with Target Sports for ammunition?
Thier prices, stock and free shipping for case lots sound very attractive but I'm leery of placing an on-line orderwith a company I don't know anything about.

When I had my Python (late 70's early 80's) Herrett's carved some custom grips for me that fit like a glove. They can do some pretty amazing things compared to what you'll find in the "stock" models. You might give them a call and tell them what you're looking for. IIRC the prices were ver...

CCI .22LR Std Velocity ammo

Has it fallen off the face of the earth??
I can't find the stuff anywhere! Not on the internet, not in the big box chain stores, not in the local shops.
What happened?

S&W M-41, 'cause that's all I've got in the way of a .22LR!
And I don't feel the least bit undergunned however.

This was years ago. I shot a 6" Python with Herrett's custom grips. It was a very accurate and beautiful revolver with 148g HBWC, first Winchesters, then reloads supplied by Woody, the rangemaster where I was shooting, then my own brew with Speer HBWC (darned if I can remember the recipe) Woody...

Does your pistol have a name?

I just finished reading The Hobbit to my young son and one detail that really grabbed me was that their swords and daggers had names. OK, I know King Arthur's sword had a name "Excalibur" I think, and Daniel Boone had Ol' Betsy so apparently the naming weapons is a long and honored traditi...

Ammunition situation in the US--what is your handle on it?

The lack of available ammunition and reloading components are throwing a crimp in my training. Is this a problem in other countries too? Does anyone have any suggestions, aside from dry fire, to reduce the amount of rather scarce ammunition required for training and yet continue to benefit from trai...

Is this about wearing pants while shooting, or is it about shooting pants for sport or self defense? Or using pants as targets?

I'm confused!

Do you swage cast bullets?...And...

...if you do, which brand of dies do you use? I got a hold of a Lee Cast Iron press since my little RCBS couldn't handle 7.5x55 and it got me thinking I'd like to try swaging pistol bullets. From what I've read, C-H makes (made?) dies that fit in reloading presses for that purpose. Does anyone here ...

What are USRA bullseye matches like?

I've never heard of any being conducted in my neck of the woods (California) Their website promotes postal shoots and the classifications sound interesting (snub nose .38s, anyone?) Has anyone here shot any of these postals or know anything about he USRA? What are they like? Is it "legit?"

If cooking off ammunition respondes in the way the NRA and MB say it does then using surplus ammo boxes might be the best arrangement. These heavy metal boxes would likely provide a good containment for ruptured brass, primers & projectiles in the event of a "cook off." A fully packed ...

Before I was married I stored ammo in my linen closet---cool and dry and out of sight. I thought it was an excellent place. Alas my bride wasn't thrilled about moving around boxes of 12 ga and .38s when putting away freshly laundered linens so...they got moved into a lockable filing cabinet (which i...

Binoculars or spotting scope?

I'd like to check my target in between shots, especially when training for the free pistol. It would seem like having a strong enough pair of binoculars at hand would be the least disruptive method? In Standl's Pistol Shooting As A Sport there is a photograph of a free pistol shooter with just such ...

Proceedure for shooting a semi-auto in a free pistol postal

I'm curious. From what I can understand of the rules, a cartridge has to be manually loaded for each shot----correct? Does it need to be cocked too? Or could the slide simply be manually released foreward to chamber the new cartridge rather than released after the shot, jacked back and then released...

Beginner BE, Yes, I'm in the same situation. I am trying to keep things basic by working on one or two things at a time. I go to the gym and hold a dumbell "pistol grip style" raising it from a 45 deg., holding, then lowering it for many, very slow repetitions. Very basic, but when I dry f...
