Re: Question about bullseye pistol competition and ammo (50ft one handed) - would SWC or JHP be more accurate or better?
At 50 feet any .45 ammunition will shoot well enough; .45-185 SWC or JHP loaded at Bullseye velocities will be much easier to shoot well than 230 grain hardball.

Re: Now for something completely different
CR, I agree that most RO's would allow a refire if it was the last shot of the string, however, I'm not sure that is correct. Rule 9.6 says "Malfunction - Failure of the pistol to function properly due to mechanical defects or to defective ammunition ," but Rule 9.4 says "No claim for...

Re: Now for something completely different
No refire if the bullet leaves the barrel. See rule 9.4 Defective Cartridge - A defective cartridge is one: (c) From which the bullet has not left the barrel (No claim for a defective cartridge shall be allowed if bullet has left the barrel.) (For procedure in case of a defective cartridge see Rules...

185 Grain JSWC Over 4.5 grains of Bullseye or 4.8 grains of WST
Both work well for me.

Re: Walther GSP Expert
The best score I ever shot in my life was with a GSP. Mine was very reliable and very accurate. I did break a firing pin, so don't dry fire without a dry fire plug.

You are correct about the .22 Short not being used in ISSF Rapid Fire Pistol. I have seen a few Walther OSP’s and an old High Standard used in Gallery Course matches, but never in an outdoor pistol match.

Re: 1911 Series 80 - are theses used anywhere for bullseye?
I have no idea why that would be, given the countless variations of custom 1911s that are out there and used in competition. In fact, Colt itself has gone back to manufacturing the Series 70. But then I also have no knowledge of Camp Perry rules or referees. The fact remains that the Series 80 was ...

Re: 1911 Series 80 - are theses used anywhere for bullseye?
It is also very easy to convert a Series 80 back to a 70. I recently rebuilt my Series 80 using a custom trigger kit from Brownells, a custom trigger from another source, and the required conversion shim, also from Brownells. There are several YouTube videos to show the process. I am no gunsmith, a...

Re: Hammerli 208: Buying Tips
Those European prices are mouth watering! Too bad the process for an individual in the US to import a handgun from Europe appears to be so complicated, can take months, is expensive ($500+ for the first gun, but at those purchase prices maybe it's worth it!), relies on government bureaucrats, and i...

Re: Scientific basis for Lot/Barrell compatibility
Without delving too deep in the weeds, to start with, what makes you think 50 rounds of a particular lot is representative of the 50,000 produced? I could go on for hours, but twirl that single question in your mind for a bit. IIRC, Eley shoots ~500 rounds from each batch in QA testing. Then they d...

Re: Scientific basis for Lot/Barrell compatibility
I once took three (3) Hammerli pistols to the Eley Customer Range, and tested seventeen (17) batches of TENEX. I was able to identify a batch of ammunition that clearly grouped better than the rest in each pistol. Three pistols, three batches of TENEX. No correlation batch to batch or pistol to pist...

Re: Old Eley Tenex vs. new Eley Tenex
We civilians get what is left over after ALL international teams have had their chance at it. So what you buy a box at a time at the retail level may not approach the Tenex ammo that our Olympic shooters are using. That makes comparisons difficult. Not exactly correct. When Bert Brookes was Chief R...

Re: New to 10meter air pistol
I got the basic rules down and how much time I have to get my 60 shots in. When my club hosted air pistol sectionals there was a non-firing prep period, then one hour and forty-five minutes for unlimited sighters and sixty shots for record. Targets were on a hand cranked trolley and you changed you...

Re: Bulls eye range design
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone here can put me on the right track about range design for NRA Conventional Pistol Programs. I know this is not popular in Europe, but right now, where I am at, we have a good chance of starting out the proper way. I was wondering if anyone can assist with basi...

Re: ELEY lot analyzer
For many years Eley kept a record of how ammunition sold through the Customer Range performed in a customer gun. When a shooter wanted more ammunition but didn't want to go back to the Customer Range, they could tell what currently available lot performed closest to the lot previously selected. This...

Re: Hammerli 208 / 218 large barrel weight
The Hammerli 208/208s went out of production years before the assets were sold to Walther. Best bet is to check with Larry's Guns in Maine or rocosystems in Texas. Barrel weights came in a variety of sizes, up to 220 grams.
