Re: 1911 pistol choices
Agree with Rover. Find a good bullseye oriented club to shoot at, and ask around. There have been lots of good gunsmiths creating match grade 45s over the last seventy years. Many, if not most will still be much better than recent factory products. Clark, Giles, Pachmayr, Chow, we’re all greats! Any...

Re: FAS 601 doubling (or tripling)
Also check the firing pin itself and it’s spring. Finally be sure the fp channel is clean. Most of my experience was with 602 pistols and they often had firing pin problems.

Re: 25m RFP Proposed changes
Rule changes for RF seem to be the norm, personally I’d like to go back to the original form as well. I too loved the .22 short. Still have one of the margolin pistols I modified for it. Destined for the scrap heap of history, or the smelter if the Canuck Ottawa idiots have their way. Cheers, thanks...

Re: TOZ 49 in USA??
About 30 years ago one of my shooting buddies imported a ToZ revolver from Australia. It was probably the only one in Canada, but he was very curious since he had seen them in international competition. The ammo was a severe pain to make and he eventually tired of it and went back to his Walther. He...

Re: Thoughts on reforming RF
Mike, what you suggest was exactly like the RF air setup. Not practical for 22 fire, though I did know a father-son pair who had a ‘reduced’ 10 metre set up in their basement. Perhaps rather than the horizontal setup it might be worthwhile to break the traditions and use a modified vertical setup wi...

Re: Thoughts on reforming RF
All that went on thirty years ago, but didn’t find enough traction and it seems ISSF has abandoned it. At least some of those rapidfire air pistols are still around. Maybe you could lead a resurrection?

Re: Filling PCP air pistol with N2?
Our club for many years kept a large tank of nitrogen for air gun users. Since normal air is 79% N2 the only thing being removed is the oxygen- so no corrosive effect. We just treated it as if it was compressed air. No problems as far as I know.

Re: Shooting after premium lens replacement eye surgery?
I had lens replacement done fifteen years ago(now 79) for cataracts. I had severe halo effects that had made night driving near impossible, but that was gone after replacement. Shooting improved substantially, but unlike some I did not escape the need for glasses. One item for some will be the devel...

Re: David Levene
My condolences as well. I respected him greatly. When I finally, in my 60s, acquired a couple of FAS Domino pistols I turned to him and he graciously led me through the maintenance and trigger setting rituals. Very thankful and I have passed his insights along to other FAS users in Canada . He will ...

Re: Unique DES/69 Variations???
The des 69 and the 69U are totally different as to trigger construction and even magazine. This is in part due to the increased angularity of the U versions. The second version des69 has a sear adjustment internal to the frame, it could only be accessed with the stocks off. The U versions common bet...

Re: LP5 Cycle Problems
The LP5 manual is/was a bit deficient, the data may be on Pilk's data base, but there is a third adjustment screw at the rear of the action - under the rear sight in line with the barrel - I recall it as a larger screw. Adjusting that controls the amount of air in the charge, mine needed about a qua...

Re: promises, promises
While there is/was no formal relationship between FAS and Britarms, having owned and used both I can say that the designs are near copies. Since the Dimino came on the market earlier, I can only assume that Westlake Engineering jumped on a lack of any patent or design protection and replicated the p...

Re: FAS 6007 - finally in my hands...
Hi Leon, well the P240 with the Wilson barrel works perfectly fine no natter what it is fed. My standard for several decades has been 2.8 Bullseye and hard cast Hensley & Gibbs #244 - a flat based wadcutter. I've had the mould since the mid 1970s and Jim Gibbs told me it had been made prior to 1...

Re: FAS 6007 - finally in my hands...
Actually here in the Great White North - the important western part anyway - a few smiths have made aluminium shrouds to replace the steel one, and mounted red dots. This retains the excellent balance and functions well in NRA style matches. Sorry Leon, some of us old guys need the sighting advantag...

It might be based on 'tung oil' which is derived from a tropical nut. If so, I can affirm that in open air the scent lingers for several months.

Dave, all of the dozen or so that I mounted on guns over thirty years had the underside milled out, only the bridges where the mounting screws holes were placed were solid. Hope that helps.

Re: S&W Model 52 - BoMar Rib
Hi Dave, My second M52 was a bit unhappy as a PPC gun but I did put a standard BowMar rib on it, calmed it down a bit but then I sold it - that was sometime in the early 1990s. Never saw a 52 with an extended rib, they would not be legal for ISSF and since most would have been in dual service up her...
