Re: Old man wants to keep shooting but seeks advise

Thanks guys for the help and encouragement. Have ordered the grip from Rink. Next issue is stance. As a righty I found my best results with the left (rear) foot placed somewhat more acute (~ 60 to 70 degree angle). Using he left eye it seems to feel more comfortable to be more open in the 40 degree ...

Old man wants to keep shooting but seeks advise

At 73, this right-hand AP shooter is not ready to give up having fun. Alas, things do wear out. In this case my right eye is suffering age-related macular degeneration, but the left eye is still 20/20. Accordingly I want to continue being a R/H shooter but learn how to cross-over to use the left eye...

Re: Pellets for air rifle

The vintage match air rifles (recoilless springers and SSP) prefer pellets in the 7.5 g or less category. As others have written above, no need for the high dollar varieties - RWS Basic are cheap and cheerful for your purposes. If, however, you want to reach out beyond 10M for plinking, JSB Exact ma...

Re: Cost and Disadvantages of a PCP Rifle

"10 year old boys & girls shooting 60 shot air rifle matches in Germany are still using SSP air rifles." But those obese USA girly-men can't handle them.. Some of which are even Walther LGR ... which BTW is the easiest of all the SSP match air rifles to scope. Great AR for silhouette ...

Re: Cost and Disadvantages of a PCP Rifle

The recoilless springer FWB 300S model require ~7 ft/lb to cock. There is not a match air rifle that requires less energy to cock them these recoilless springers from Feinwerkbau. SSP match air rifles such as the Walther LGR/LG-90/LGM-2, or Feinwerkbau 600 Series (600/601/602/603) require about 18 f...

Re: Cost and Disadvantages of a PCP Rifle

Don't overlook CO2 match air rifles. More shots per fill with FWB 300S cocking effort. Many of my clients like them for the same purposes you desire. The FWB C60 and C62 or (if the Gods favor you) a Steyr Match 91 each of which sell for $hundreds less then comparable PCP "vunderguns" from ...

Re: Red Morini and Green Steyr..

Not to hijack the thread but in 2003 a Cuban young lady using a well-used FWB 601 defeated all the latest and greatest PCP air rifle at the PanAm games.

Rover ... take heart dude!

Re: Walther LGR Cocking

The amount of energy needed to cock all of the SSP match air rifle are very similar. The LGR compression stroke is just in the opposite direction from the later versions such as the FWB 600;s, Anschutz Super Air models, Steyr's and later versions of Walther. If you want a really easy match air rifle...

If you are having difficulty grouping, try shooting at a reversed target (no bull just plain paper). This is an old fashion approach to discover if the shooter is watch the sights or the target. Tighter groups are always the goal --- I will stop here for you to discover the outcome of the experiment.
