Airsoft - experience in setting up portable ranges?

Among my shooting activities, I do a lot with the Boy Scouts. The BSA has a new airsoft program and we're moving forward with it. However, we have a need for a knock-down portable set of ranges for 3-gun type shooting. I'm looking for anyone with specific experience in airsoft AEGs, etc. that has us...

Re: How much does shooting matter to a school like MIT?

I re-read your original post and have some constructive comments. First, unless you have some incredibly good air scores and can reliably turn those numbers in, without smallbore experience it's going to be an exceptionally difficult job to even walk on a NCAA team. A couple of years ago I met a you...

Re: Smallbore programs within driving distance of St. Louis

Thanks for that. I had looked but not found anything relatively close - but Highland is only about an hour away, thanks for that. Marshall is nearly 3 hours away. There's a college almost within walking distance of my place that has a top-level shotgun team. Trying to make contacts there to see if t...

Smallbore programs within driving distance of St. Louis

I've moved to St. Louis and have not been able to find a smallbore program or matches near me. Anyone have information about any programs within driving distance? I joined a club that professed to have a smallbore program to only find out they are using nearly antique rifles with open sights and no ...

Competiton wood target stand

I'm looking for plans (or a kit) to build a competition wood target stand. I did a search here and found a link describing one, but the link died.

If a pre-cut kit is available I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Re: Wood vs. Aluminum Anschutz stocks - smallbore

My old 1913 had a warping problem. After removing the barrel and action I found it really wasn't free-floated to the action; about half the barrel was touching wood. And the wood was bare - not laquered or sealed. A friend carefully machined out just enough wood to fully free-float the barrel and be...

Without exaggeration, I've probably spent northward of $7.5K with Carl over the last seven years. Great, honest company. That's one of the nice things about this shooting discipline - everyone is pretty darn nice!

No argument for target shooting, but for self defense drills, you need both eyes open and that presents a challenge to cross-dominant shooters is all.

I'm one of those folks too. Not an issue with a blinder and rifle. For pistol, that's a different issue - I find myself (with both eyes open) moving the gun about 2 inches to the left to align with my dominant eye. It works for me.

Here's one for you. I met with a woman here in the Chicagoland area who was afraid to even talk about the Boy Scouts. I had a meeting with her to talk her off the ledge. Then I mentioned rifle merit badge - and then she said "oh, that's fine, I'm originally from West Virginia!" Go figure.

Thanks for your post, I'll check out the link you provided. So if there was a 50 yard (minimum) outdoor smallbore-specific range, there would be interest? Obviously weather permitting!

Northeastern Illinois?

Hello all - it's been a long six months since I last regularly visited this site. I moved from North Carolina for a new job opportunity just northwest of Chicago - money talks, although several good friends suggested I had lost my mind, LOL. I sold my rifles knowing I was going to have a very diffic...

If my 22-year old daughter knew there was a Colt LT6720 in "Muddy Girl" pink camo available, I think I know what would be on her Christmas List.

I've got a different take. I moved this past winter to northern Illinois and couldn't believe that the matches would be within a short driving distance of my new home. That being said, I sold my rifle due to the complete lack of locations or competition for smallbore. Then fate arrived; I'll post ab...

Youthful and double jointed. I have a kid who used to play clarinet (at 21 she thinks it's too nerdy now), and with her double-jointed fingers, she looked like an octopus the way her fingers would work the instrument. While it may work for this young shooter, I hope someone helped them find a better...

Watch and see if it's relisted. Very often in these situations the buyer welches on payment and it goes to a "second chance" runner up. If they decline, the seller relists.

Oh, no worries, we can all use assistance. Don't worry too much about my jacket - it's a size 50. Yes, 50, and I am 5 foot 9 or 1.76 meters tall. Pants are a size 40. I resemble a fire plug! My father is tall but I managed to get my mom's shorter legs. My head movement is actually quite adequate; I ...
