One tip would be to put together a YouTube video of yourself while shooting. While it would be a lot easier to help you in person, I might be able to give you some tips remotely (I'm in North Carolina). The most important thing to do is to try to objectively write down (paper, electronically, whatev...

Well, I read a lot of good thoughts but wondering why some of the basics aren't being discussed. By the way, you and I are the exact same height. Your pictures are very useful. Some ideas: 1. Your sling is quite low on your upper arm. It appears that you can adjust it upwards; it looks like you coul...

For a reality check, A team scores in smallbore are going to have to be consistently 550 or above. Air will need to be 570 or above. That doesn't mean you can't be a walk-on, join the B team and develop your skills with professional coaching. You might want to search for other similar posts discussi...

I had a similar experience. The NC State Trooper was very polite, and when I informed him about my permit, he asked me to remove it from where I had it with two fingers - try doing that with a small 1911. Then his response was, "Cool! a Kimber!" and at that point I figured I was only getti...

Here in North Carolina (east coast of the US) it's pretty balanced. If you want to buy up to 5 handguns at a time and are 21 and not judged mentally unstable, you first go to the local Sherrif and obtain a purchase permit application ($5 each gun). Once returned, they have 7 days to call you up to p...

Well, if it works for you, great, but it's not what the smallbore OR high power coaching book says. The usefulness of the right hand (if a righty) is to help stabilize the rifle while your trigger finger does its thing. It should not be tightly gripping the gun; rather, it should be just holding it....

Cameron - first of all, excellent job! Now the challenge will be to duplicate your effort so it is reliably repeatable. Some thoughts... 1. You have a problem I also share. To reach the chamber, you have to remove your elbow from the mat. This means you are changing your position slightly with every...

Yes, especially in the prone position. Moving your feet will pivot your body slightly and you'll find you have a new NPA. It takes practice, a great item for your shooting journal writings.

I've been on the same diet as Johan for the last 6 months - lost 19 pounds (8.6 Kilos), can fit into clothes I bought 20 years ago & no more blood sugar issues. Just cut out biscuits & cake, bread, potato, rice, pasta & pastry. If you don't buy it, you can't eat it. Easy. KB. You guys a...

There were a couple of points in the article that caused me a slight pause, so having the ability and means, I checked into them. I can state that certain aspects of the article are specifically flawed. A comparison would be like suggesting Johnny claimed to score a 1600-160X, but if you look at the...

Very good on your responses. N Frontenac is definately in the Great White North, eh. I grew up and started my interest in smallbore shooting down in Rochester. Yes, you sound like you are at a plateau where adding money to the equation will probably allow you to rise to a 550 score. You are at a poi...

Big SIGH. Hard to coach from afar, and it's always hard when more than one or two people have opinions, but...you asked. Wonder how far you are from Sudbury; if there, your local Hydro is a customer. Some thoughts. 1. I'd do away with the eye shade on the rear sight. It may help you with contrast de...

Just a different opinion. A wealthy smallbore shooter suggested the BSA fixed power 36X Platinum scope. If you are patient, you can find them on Ebay for $75. I have two - both set up on a 6811 mount, one set up for 50 yards and the other for 100 yards. Yes, I also have two rear metallic sights. For...

I have two interesting shooting games. The first is "tens". If the shooter is capable enough to do it, see how many rounds you can put in the ten ring. This can be modified to 9s or 8s. My personal best is 26, which is just slightly more than total record bulls in a match relay. It's a con...

Looking for trophy "mascots"

I'm helping someone find prone shooting "mascots" to put on trophies. There has to be a source out there we haven't found yet. What's a mascot? It's the miniature figurine mounted at the top of a trophy. There's a million bowling mascots out there, but have not fallen across a souce for pr...

The gentleman in question is quite prolific in his career in writing about scandals across his 41-year tenure. Ranging from Watergate, airline safety, immigration, AIDS, and child molestation, he's now apparently run out of juicy stories and is looking for a high-profile liberal target - the NRA. To...

One last point - don't assume a college will tell you about scholarships. Unless you were a top 3P shooter at Camp Perry, they generally won't go out of their way tell you. One college coaching staffer explained to me that he had limited dollars to offer, but unless a shooter asked about it and was ...

From looking at your rifle, I mount my rear sight about 2 inches further forward that you have yours now. That would explain having to hold your neck in an un-natural position. I also would pull off the eye shade as it is just making things much worse.

'Fury: Sounds like you are getting some good information about rifles, but no one has touched on schools yet. I went through this with one of my sons who had no air experience, but had 3P experience. He was shooting up to 560 in smallbore and had plateau-ed (improvement wasn't so quick). He was shoo...
