Atmospheric variations x air cylinders

Hi all,

Do variations in atmospheric conditions affect the workings of an air rifle (or pistol, for that matter) and its cylinder? Living in the tropics I feel that sometimes depending on aircondition the pressure in the cylinder goes down too fast...

Itty bitty springy thing

Hi all, Sometime ago during a dry-firing session with my Anschütz, a "thing" fell from the inside of the mechanism (see picture). Judging from its appearance it's part of a spring. I've looked at the parts diagram for the 2002 several times over without being able to trace it. The nearest ...

Nick - You have hit a topic that is one of my most common issues with young (Junior) shooters. We as coaches can't emphasize enough, it's OKAY to put the rifle down. I use a drill with some guys in training... I want to see them set up a shot but I want to see them put the rifle down after a hold o...

Now, now, tsokasn put a very good question here...my shooting vest is one notch above tsokasn's (Anschütz lower intermediary level) and after about a year's use the pants are beginning to look, er, rather grubby...the jacket is not an issue, the only problem is the leather but I deal with that using...

Rejecting bad shots

Hi all, Need a bit of help...of lately I've been noticing that I've been accepting bad shots rather too frequently. A shooting colleague remarked (quite rightly) that during training or competition I hardly seem to refuse shots. Is there any drill that I can employ to rectify this situation? Ideas v...

Talking of adding weights, what is the exact purpose of adding weight at the back of the rifle?? Most of my shooting mates say I should add weight at the front, but I seldom hear a word about adding weight at the rear. Mind you, while dismantling my rifle for maintenance I discovered that the previo...

Thanks guys for the help. I've just paid a visit to the optometrist and although he didn't quite catch the situation (shooting-savvy optometrists are a rare breed here...), he gave the same explanation as Anschütz gave to peepsight - people with astigmatism have some difficulties perceiving circles,...

Exploding groupings

Hi all, I would like to know if using an aperture larger than one's usual value has an adverse effect on one's groupings? I use a 3.8, I'm very confortable with it, but everytime I put anything larger (as an experiment, just to see) my groupings seem to collapse... I'm asking because I've decided to...

seriously, does taking in caffeine really have such a negative impact on shooting? for me, its the opposite. i feel better drinking coffee. it makes me more alert, and more calm. Caffeine is not good for shooting, unless you usually take caffeine, in which case stopping it is worse. If you can wean...

Line of action?

Hi all, In a previous post I mentioned that I swapped the stock in my 2002, however I'm in a slightly difficult position now... Today I had a match (a stage of the Sao Paulo State Championships) and my score dropped rather sharply from "usual" (I've been shooting for about 1 1/2 years now ...

Thanks, forgot to tell that it is a wooden (laminate) stock, so no need to adjust the handstop. LOP (buttplate length) was OK as it came.

Setting up the rifle

Hi all,

I've just swapped the stock in my rifle and now I need to set it up (set the buttplate, cheekpiece, etc...). Is there a particular order for setting the stock up, say, buttplate first, then the cheekpiece, etc...? Any help would be welcome...

Cheers,

A while back I realized that I hadn't touched the sights on my air guns in many months, if not years. I still shoot a couple of "sighters" to get into the mental groove, but I don't even bring a scope to matches. Someday I'm going to have an undetected-until-too-late mechanical failure or...

Yep Bill, I do this in practice. Of course, when during a match I do remember to pull, check and change my bulls... :-D this exercise helps me focus less on the score and more on execution, I really have to resist the temptation of pulling the target and have to focus on the execution of the next sh...

Jordan, experiment with making three shots to a bull; pull target only after making all shots and take note only where they have landed (do not score) and how did each shot relate to its execution. If you really want to shoot for score, then run a proper match, including keeping time. If you frequen...

MEC Trigger - Good, Bad, Irrelevant?

Hi all,

I'm considering purchasing a MEC Trigger for my rifle, however before I open my purse to part with the monies I would like to know the opini9on of those who have already purchased one. What do you think about it, has it helped in any measure?

This question is mainly for Ryan, but If anyone has an answer, please do post it... I've been watching this post for awhile, I found Ryan's posts very interesting.
