With air pistols and rifles there should be no particulate lead in the air at the firing point, although there may be some at the target depending on the type of trap used. . Actually they can spit quite a bit of lead. And considering the inadequate ventilation at almost all indoor ranges, where AP...

Bob Hickey, still alive?

Bob Hickey wrote a big, fat, orange book about pistol shooting and ran a youth olympic pistol program in Tucson AZ about 15 years ago. Does anyone know if he is still alive? Does anyone think he is still alive? We can compile our opinions in a week or so here, if he's still alive, yay! If not, maybe...

If that were the case, the selections made would be very different than they have been.

Re: For Alex C

You Have really done a great job of analizing the specific issues and attitudes that will be required to gain sucess at the top level of our sport. I appologise for not recognise your name. Unfortunately I thought you were one of the non competitive guest types that spend their time denegrateing th...

I suggest this site adopt the practice of Slashdot and change "guest" to "anonymous coward". Yes, I admit beating Don Nygord's daughter at the 1993 nationals was not a good idea. The really bad part is, I only wanted 4th or 3rd or so, just good enough to get onto the team. The pi...

Have you ever thought that the reason is that the guys there just ain't good enough ? Now they may be the best and in many cases most experienced, but if they ain't putting in the kind of scores required to make the finals then they aren't going to get into them, never mind medal. I would suggest t...

While hard to read and figure out (it is, after all, a "Brobdignagian" process full of steam calliopes and mirrors) it is spelled out. Steve Swartz You are correct, it's always been spelled out. However in real life it goes beyond your steam calliopes and distorted mirrors and becomes the...

Yeah it's a CMP program, you have to earn 30 points in World Cups, Olympics Pan American Games etc to get it. I'd have 'em if I hadn't kinda screwed up in Munich - I have 20 points. the rifle and pistol parts are easier, you just have to like going around places and shooting a military type rifle an...

Re: World and Olympic medals for the US

"How many did we put on the line when Hulet 'Joe' Benner won gold ?" Huelet "Joe" Benner was in the Army, where there's some financial and especially political backup no matter how poor a background the shooter comes from. I've been trying to get back in since I realized I had th...

Dislodged for being in the way of those with more money and "pull". Through irregular and probably illegal means, which I didn't have the money to hire lawyers for at the time, and I suffered a certain lack of guts because of this. It didn't help me (although it did help the regime running...

I'd like to add that for the last decade or so there's been a big push to train US school kids (and anyone else interested) in robotics. There are whole companies like arrick robotics etc. devoted to hobby robotics. And magazines like SERVO etc. That means even more tools to design and build turning...

Hmm ...... is this stuff to add to a grip?

Seems I saw Spas Koprinkov make a nice grip addition out of 2-part epoxy and wood dust one day at the OTC, the process was quite interesting and fun to watch.

Lack of turning targets is not what's killing International pistol in the US. Yes we could use more of them, but let's get real here - I managed to make the team in air and sport and to win nationals in sport the next year with no training on turning targets except at matches. I trained at the OTC f...

Good point, NRA Bullseye is everywhere. And shooting the .22 part is a cheap way to do lots of matches.

If it's the pistol I think it is, don't get it.

There's a pistol made by Daisy, side-cocker with a sort of "target" grip, not the fastest velocity but you can learn to shoot accurately with that and it's utterly reliable. I'd get one of those.

There seem to be a lot of (fairly) suitable ranges, but no people on the ground to actually push the ISSF disciplines there. I would think the first job that USA Shooting should do is to try and get a foothold in some of the clubs that have the facilities for the various disciplines, especially in ...
