Basically, there are three leading brands which are popular in the 50m (Free) Pistol Discipline. These are Hammerli, Morini and Pardini. Steyr and Russian Toz also produce world class free pistols. Each of the three former brands have had a share in Olympic and other world shooting titles. In the la...

Contrary to what I thought, here are some encouraging stats about shooting sports: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/olympics/longterm/shooting/shthist.htm 1) While only four nations competed in shooting events in 1896, 83 countries met on the firing lines in Barcelona in 1992 (the highest...

The winter sport Biathlon, which 'conjoins' skiing with rifle shooting, might show the way if 'low action' shooting sports are to survive in the Olympics. Current disciplines of pistol, rifle and shotgun shooting could stay as they are, but additionally more exciting events which could combine runni...

David: I think I wasn't able to come across clearly. My point was just to understand the logic behind the black-to-white proportions. In other words are these ratios driven by some kind of formula or it is arbitrary, based on experience over time? As for comparing different disciplines, that wasn't ...

Black Aiming Area in Targets
The black areas inside targets for various shooting disciplines have different ratios vis-a-vis the white portion. This implies that the 'aiming areas' are proportioned differently. My post is basically to understand the logic behind this. The ISSF targets have following black-to-white ratios/dimens...

Walther SSP
jer: I bought a Walther SSP exactly an year ago and, I have had virtually NO mechanical problem so far. Having said that, I must add that an occasional misfeed (where the round does not engage the ramp properly while being chambered) has occured. In most of the misfeed cases, the uppermost bullet in...

The four shooters look like those creatures in video games, don't they? Shooting sports require a visually appealing make-over in shooter's fashions, for sure. The anything goes attitude (jeans, track suits, shorts, tees, etc) needs to be replaced by elan and elegance that is seen in sports like gol...

Spectator Appeal
Of all sports, shooting (and perhaps archery) are least spectator friendly. Perhaps the slow pace of shooting, limited on-range spectator capacity, the drab attire (shabby track suits) of shooters, noise, poor TV coverage etc, all have their share in a not very glamorous sport. Can something be done...

Bill A: I would recommend that you go for a Walther SSP rather than the GSP Expert if you intend upgrading from the plain GSP. The SSP has a lot going for it. It is Walther's newest and technically, well-designed. It meets all ISSF criteria. Optimised for standard as wll as rapid fire. Please refer ...

The ten rounds magazine limit on handguns in certain States of USA makes a lot of sense. However, the whole rationale behind the regulation blows up when you consider quick reloads through extra pre-loaded magazines (as was the case with the VT shooter who fired a total of 170 rounds, which is over ...

789: Your experience of a right-up flip is indeed strange, but I have to say that no such a problem occured so far, while I pushed about 2,500 rounds through its muzzle. Could it be the 3D grip issue? A grip skewed off its fore-aft axis or its vertical axis could make the muzzle horse around, I imag...

As a user of the Walther SSP for some time now, I can say that it is a first-rate competition pistol and compares with the best. The pneumatic buffer is an innovative recoil suppression method as compared to the 'vibration muffler' of its predecessor, the GSP Expert. To beat the recoil, several rapi...
