Unique DES69 rear sight removal
Hi Folks, Posting here because of stunning lack of response on Olympic Pistol forum... Can someone please tell me how to remove the rear sight blade on the DES69? I have no instructions, just a fuzzy exploded diagram. I am loath to try what I think is the right method, in case it isn't! Thanks in ho...

Getting back to the subject...
Well Sagara, I trust you found the above self-indulgent rambling more enlightening than I did. I will attempt to do you the courtesy of a reply to your question. Assuming 'normal' illumination conditions, it seems easier to align the sights (front sight to back sight alignment) against the white bac...

TOZ 36
Does anyone know anything about the TOZ 36 (sic) semi-auto revolver?
Where they made in any numbers? Did any escape to the West? Where might I look for one? I'm in New Zealand: we can import (I'm told) without too much difficulty. We're lucky!
Also interested in a TOZ 49 - same questions.

Unique DES69 rear sight removal
Please could some kind person explain how to remove the rear sight blade?
I have no instructions and only a fuzzy exploded diagram. I'm loath to try what I think is needed to remove the adjusting screw and sight, unless there's no alternative.

(Previously posting as Old eyeball - now I'm a registered member!) Jeffrey, exactly what are you hoping to do? It sounds interesting, if I've interpreted you correctly. Can you give us more detail? It's been suggested, (harold Vaughan: Rifle Accuracy Facts) based on evidence, rather than belief, and...

Been doing more research, including having a close look at more Hammerlis. This is what I found. It probably isn't the whole story: I suspect age-related differences as well as differences between models. However, it may be of help to someone. 'Cheaper', bead-blasted finish, supposedly a characteris...

Are we missing something here? Considering target ammo: I thought 'pistol' ammo was designed with a faster burn rate than 'rifle' ammo for two reasons: firstly, to get a reasonable muzzle velocity out of such a short barrel, and secondly, to cycle blow-back mechanisms properly. Rifle ammo is designe...

OK, I know these pistols are meant to feed when the slide is slamming to and fro at great speed, but, unless things are moving at relativistic speeds, dimensions and geometry still apply. Thus, I maintain that you can tell something about the mechanism by looking at it whilst moving the slide slowly...

Hammerli 208 or 215?
Silly question, perhaps... Please can someone tell me how to differentiate between the 208 and the 215? One is available for sale, an early-ish example, no model number on frame. Also, what should the muzzle crown look like and should the muzzle end of the barrel be blued or natural metal? This one ...

Update to above... Have just returned from trying Unique DES69 at the range. Gun functioned well enough and was more accurate than its shooter, but looking at a sample of withdrawn chambered rounds, each time, the bullet was heavily deformed where it had been pushed against the corner of the loading...

FAS SP607 (and other) feeding
The feeding mechanism of my FAS seems to rely on luck or good timing, rather than strict guidance. Why do I say this? Because, as the round is pushed towards the breech by the slide, the nose of the bullet starts to rotate, either by contact with the loading ramp or by the drag of the magazine lips ...

Thank you 'Guest', your observations tend to confirm my from-first-principles suspicions. I'm disappointed that there has been so little response. My suspicion is that the barrel between lead and muzzle really isn't that important (bent and bulged barrels can still shoot remarkably consistently) - i...

Accuracy and barrel length
These may sound like a silly questions... but are they? Let's have a thoughtful discussion. My apologies if this has been done to death before in this forum. Why do guns designed for accuracy characteristically have long(er) barrels? Consider these:- A century or so ago, FW Mann showed that consiste...

Bad news, folks,
Frankonia emailed a prompt reply: 'IJ 35 is out of manufacture'.
Perhaps if we all bombard the Baikal factory with emails, they might decide to screw another batch together...

Thanks everyone for the info. I have asked a Russian fellow cub member, who is also interested in getting one of these, to contact Baikal, just in case there's one supply line for Russians and one for the rest of us. I'll also contact Franconia. It sounds like quite a few of these could be sold, if ...
