"lead ring"

Am I understanding this correctly? Is the 'lead ring' formed in the chamber in front of the shorter .38 Special case? Why not circumvent this problem by using .357 Magnum cases? Is there a disadvantage to this?

Hammerli P240 manual?

Can anyone please point me to a manual on the 'net for a P240? A second-hand one is hopefully coming my way, but without documentation.

The manual on the Walther site, which also seems to appear on other sites, has been scanned badly, cutting off the top and bottom of some pages.

Thanks in hope...

Oh dear! This is getting interesting. As an 'inveterate tinkerer', my appetite has been whetted.

Can anyone provide more details, drawings even? OK, I know it's a lot to ask, but us tinkerers need our fun too.

G'day Bro! Just fill a container with anything! At a Christchurch gunshop this afternoon, inquiring about getting target pistols from overseas, either new or used. Owner doesn't import any more - the obstacles raised by the shipping companies are such that it isn't worth his while fighting them. Are...

Thanks.

What about the resulting empty space in the cartridge, if the long .357 case is used? Is this a real, or just theoretical, problem?

.357 vs .38 revolver

Hi folks, I hanker after a centre-fire revolver. At present I shoot ISSF .22 standard pistol. I know very little about hand-loading, but it sounds interesting. Various revolvers are coming up for sale, hence the question... Please can I have some advice regarding the pros and cons of a .357 Magnum r...

Axel, As Steve Swartz said, there's a lot of discussion about irises on this forum. There are many different types of optical 'aberrations', so it's not clear which one it is to which you refer. You are right that a small aperture can reduce the problems of sperical and cylindrical aberration. If yo...

Reinhamre / Kent

Thank you for your previous posts - very helpful indeed. I wanted to add detail and tidy up a couple of loose ends, in case others were having the same problems. I accept that my last post appears to devalue your contribution - my apologies, no criticism intended.

Unique rear sight removal

Well, perhaps few know or care how the rear sight blade of the Unique DES-69 is removed. Faced with no explicit instructions after my plea for help, I decided to get adventurous. Here's what I found. Perhaps it might help someone. I know that one person in this forum is interested in DES-96 rear sig...

The ringing is essentially poorly damped resonances excited by the bang. Spectral analysis shows many frequencies, showing that the thing vibrates in a complex way. Really, (target) rifle design is fundamentally flawed because of the way the mass of the barrel and action is coupled to the stock. The...

Just to muddy the waters further... Because a small aperture increases depth of focus, the target can (will) appear better focussed, even when you are doing your best to focus on the front sight. This can be an almighty distraction, causing you to shift your optical and mental focus to the target. H...

I have a 1913 barrel / action mounted in a Kiwi-made alloy stock. The bedding material seems to be some sort of rigid, filled epoxy-like material. To get some idea of the gun's accuracy, I clamped it into the club's rigid vice, the rifle being clamped at the stock's fore-end and butt. On firing, the...

I'm faced with the same predicament, although for my DES69. If you have successfully removed your rear blade, please could you explain how it's done? It looks like the central screw-driver slot on the right end of the adjusting screw is swaged out (presumably in order to lock it) in the bore of a ro...

Interesting question, jtg: I'd also like to know the answer. However, I'm not sure that it's really worth knowing. As tenex has shown, reducing a small-order error (the gun's inaccuracy) doesn't do much for overall accuracy, given that the shooter is the dominant source of error. I suspect that the ...

To reinforce Mr. Swartz's impeccable advice, if you need convincing of the wisdom of his advice' next time you are at the range, try this. It's most convincing when the target is brightly illuminated. Use a rest or sandbag or something, to take out unwanted movement. Start with your aim point well b...

Have you carefully checked your rear sight aperture for roundness, concentricity and spotless cleanliness?
