Crikey! We had a broadband 'outage' (Telecom's euphemism for a stuff-up?) over the latter stages of the auction - probably just as well, or the neighbours would have complained about the howls of incredulity! Anyway, even though it's not currently relevant, the question remains: are they any good? (...

I don't have personal experience of either of these brands, so this opinion is theoretical... Ideally, the corrective lens should sit as close to your eye as possible, and it goes without saying that its alignment should be such that you are looking down the optical axis (line of sight at right angl...

For goodness sake, don't actively try to lock or hyper-extend your elbow - it will hurt and take a long time to settle down after you realise it was such a bad idea. The best position of the upper arm is so that, with elbow bent 90deg, your forearm's pointing straight up. Then let your hand come str...

Wheels (just for you)

I have it on good authority that the 2000 is a disaster! No good at all. Don't waste your money.

Feinwerkbau 2000

I know the current FWB smallbore rifles are well-respected and perform well, but what about their predecessor, the model 2000? Were they successful? How do they compare with Anschutz of similar vintage? And now the real question... should I consider buying one?

Glen, I wish I knew the answer! I think it's an iterative process, i.e. maddening and frustrating. Tacho the ammo to find a batch with the smallest velocity spread first. I believe that takes care of the most important variable. Other variables, such as projectile mass, concentricity, dimensions, et...

Or you could wind the clock back and use a two-point sling. They work pretty well.

The Anschutz torque figures are just starting points, but don't overtighten the screws on an Anschutz in case the threads in the receiver strip! I don't know what the maximum torque allowed is. Also, more confusion, because it is not made clear whether the suggested torques are for dry or lubricated...

It's easy to do. Done it quite a bit on anatomical pistol grips. Use small ball-ended dental burrs (ask your dentist nicely! You need the type that are used in the slow-speed drill - diamond burrs are no use) in a Dremel and peck away at the wood. Be careful not to allow the burr to skid over the su...

208 trigger adjustment

I have the user handbook for the older model 208 with the simpler, less adjustable trigger. The user is permitted to adjust trigger pull weight, but backlash adjustment should only be done by a gunsmith! The nanny state was up and running in Switzerland all those years ago, it seems. The handbook th...

Thanks Ed for the cleaning & adjustment doc, duly downloaded & studied. What about more involved maintenance work? The reason for asking is that I have an early-model 208, with the simpler trigger. It's not done a lot of work, but its previous owner(s) can't be assumed to have cleaned or lub...

Walther KK Match

What do folks think about the Walther KK Match small-bore rifle, in comparison to 1970-80s vintage Anschutz? I shoot prone exclusively. Reason for asking is that one has become available locally, asking equivalent of US$825. Apologies if 'KK Match' doesn't identify the rifle adequately: I'm not fami...

If you really want to paint aluminium alloys, key the surface first, by bead-blasting, for instance, then use a suitable etch-primer (get advice what's available locally). I find two-pack polyurethanes are a little more resilient than epoxies, so don't chip as readily, but you should use breathing a...

I was looking at the practicalities of importing a pistol from Denmark to New Zealand. No problems with national regulations, but the problem was finding a carrier prepared to (knowingly!) transport a pistol.

Please let us all know if you find a co-operative carrier!

Sounds much more like a mechanical problem in iris mechanism mounting, sight mounting or adjustment mechanism than an operator error. Something's loose, surely.

As kid, I remember my father spitting on his hands before using an axe. Since he was a good teacher, I do too. I thought everyone did! No need to lick!

It's not the stippling I dislike, but the varnish.
