Re: Shaking things up, escaping ruts, quantity training — how to stay motivated?
Since you ask: I was training with John Zurek one day. The point was to shoot ONLY eights. That is a good idea! Evenly spread throughout the ring? A while back when I felt that I still wanted to aim at a regular target (because one of the issues I was working on then was that I was constantly think...

(And, since this is the Internet: do not forget to tell me if I am wrong in any way! ;)) Oh, we will . . . welcome to Target Talk. Rover, calling Rover . . . your input is needed in the Shooter's Lounge department. Do not forget to tell me what your strategies are to mix things up, though. My error...

Shaking things up, escaping ruts, quantity training — how to stay motivated?
I would be interested in hearing some ideas on how to shake things up when it feels like you are a bit stuck in a rut. Recently, I have been working on a set of problems (the details of which I will omit in order to stay focussed on the broader topic) and have felt that I know what I need to get bet...

Re: 10m air pistol
There are several things going on at once: the sights must be aligned while the pistol must point at your aiming point (or within your aiming area). Then, of course, you must also trigger the shot. When you fire against a blank wall, you can ignore one of those things, which makes it much easier. Th...

Re: Monthly AP League August 2023
Had a good session today that deteriorated sharply towards the end. Have been feeling a mild cold for a few days and appear to lack any stamina, both physical and mental. 568 (48 46 50 49 49 47 49 48 47 45 47 43) Steyr LP 50, H&N Match Green, paper targets Shot at 6 metres due to space constraints

Re: Monthly AP league June 2023
Managed to get into a nice smooth flow today. As noted earlier, this is shot at five metres so results are inflated compared to what they would have been at ten! 494-17x (10 times 5 shots): 48 50 50 49 50 49 50 48 50 50 Steyr LP 50, shot with H&N Match Green Sub-six hold, aiming at paper targets...

Re: You wanna buy WHAT?
"the idea is that if I can shoot well with a worse trigger, I'll shoot better with a better one" I don't think this tactic works (in multiple fields) in the way one would hope. Practicing something mechanical that is different (harder) than the actual task you hope to perform just makes y...

Re: Monthly AP league June 2023
I currently shoot air pistol at five metres because that's all I can manage in my garage(1). Can I join in the AP league despite shooting at half the proper distance? (1) After a bit of rearranging I am planning on extending this to six metres but then there is a wall, so can't get further than tha...

Re: Aiming too long
Since I also tend to have this problem on and off, may I ask how long your process takes from (a) when you start lifting the gun and (b) once you've arrived at the aiming area? For me, it seems like it is best to take it quite easy (lift slowly, exhale slowly, lower slowly) but once I'm in the right...

Re: You wanna buy WHAT?
I bought an LP 50, specifically because I wanted the ability to use it to realistically train for other disciplines than just slow/precision fire. I presume some variants with electronic triggers can dry-fire in quick succession but it is nice to be able to shoot five shots in a string and actually ...

Re: Drills/Exercises for shaking during trigger pull
I have a similar problem but—and this is about me and my experience but may be useful to someone else—believe it is mental. When I dry-fire in any which way, my trigger pull is usually smoother. As soon as I fire actual pellets or bullets against a target, it is harder to pull smoothly. I think this...
