I've always been told not to touch the bulb when putting them in. Oil from your hands will cause a short life span. Use a rag to install them. You must get the cylinder to be filled cold first. Otherwise the pressure will equalize and you will only have a small amount of liquid with mostly gas in the cylinder. Try one of two things: 1. I also would suggest the Daisy 449. The stock is wood so it can be shortened. It is plenty accurate. I would not recommend the Daisy Buck. They are hard to cock, multi-shot and inaccurate.
