0. To people that PMed regarding testing: I'll contact you soon; don't go about buying hardware until you get the software from me. 1. WRT ten-ring being 0.5mm: this is not a problem, since the effective score diameter is the score-ring diameter plus the projectile diameter (4.5mm), so the effective...

silentfury214: sure! if you're up to it - why not. BrianM: understood; let me know when/if you're up to it. The laser in the pic is LaserLyte FSL-3. It is tiny, but the battery life is abysmal. The laser I referred to in the earlier post is 80x20mm in size, not heavy. I would prefer something that i...

PS3Eye camera performs adequately, bringing down the total costs close to absolute zero. If anyone is interesting in beta-testing, please PM me; having any technical background is a plus. You'll need the following: 1) PS3Eye camera, e.g. http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Eye-3/dp/B000VTQ3LU PS3Eye w...

Brian,
That depends on the application. Camera is mostly one-way data flow and latency is of little concern. I hooked up my camera with this cable with no issues.
Having said that, I prefer camera next to the shooter option as well.[/url]

paulo, Hardware you suggested are below the minimum spec. I'm researching other options that look promising. WRT additional features - let's take it one step at a time; those are off the radar at this time. NateG, The use of good camera with powerful lens was to facilitate having the camera next to ...

paulo, Thanks for additional research. Analog cameras will require additional hardware (frame grabber), and their specs and performance is targeted for surveillance applications rather than machine vision. Having experimented with multiple cameras, I found out the following: 1) Resolution is immater...

Thanks for the feedback. Dry-firing is already supported - the microphone picks up the click just fine, even with quieter Morini electronic triggers. Is LP10e click any quieter? Calculating and recording shot values, etc. should be rather straightforward. Hardware-wise, I tested the top of the line ...

Richard and silentfury214, At present these are the hurdles that affect Mac support: 1) The hardware I used is not supported on Mac; I'm going to search around to see if I can find an affordable USB camera with Mac support, at least 640x480@60fps/uncompressed, preferably accepting C/CS-mount lens. I...

Home Trainers: A challenger appears.
I've been working on reinventing a trainer system. I have a prototype and it is working rather nicely for me; given the recent thread about Kinect I thought I'd share: The system consists of the following components: 1. Laser module attached to the pistol or rifle, beam directed towards the target b...

Where does the confusion about where the hand ends and wrist begins come from? My hand has a clear thick wrinkle line separating the hand from the forearm. When I normally hold the grip, you can see the line all the way down. If i hold the grip too deep so the palm shelf extends beyond the hand line...

I'd say the image is pretty unambiguous, despite being low-res. There have been other threads on this topic before. I never heard about this rule being ever enforced. If your pistol does not comply with the rules, there's physical proof of that; but if someone's grip supports the wrist, there's no h...

One obvious approach to a novel electronic target would be to use CCD imaging to capture the silhouette of the passing projectile. Napkin calculations show that the clock rates of modern line-scan cameras are more than enough to image a passing bullet. Since this is so simple (in theory), naturally ...

Good old THINKOFTHECHILDREN!!! move is always in the top of the toolbox of every politician (seen that thread about the airgun accident involving a toddler in the UK?) If your son is mature enough to shoot I would expect him to be mature enough to properly handle the sharp use of the language. Would...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/stretta/2761279122/ I just wish there were a way to conduct a test to prove that the Chinese gymnasts are under-age so they can be disqualified as well. Saw them in half and count their rings! But seriously, people found multiple official documents that indicate they are...
