Help choosing size of grip for IZH-46M

I need advice choosing an aftermarket grip for my IZH-46M. I've had it for a few years, and have been through a few grips. I bought the laminated grip that Airguns of Arizona sold a few years ago, made by Steve Corcoran. That ended up being a large size (only one size available), and was absolutely ...

I believe it has to do with lead, copper, and powder fouling filling in the microscopic grooves/pits inherent in any barrel. That said, I'm no expert on such things.

+10 on reading everything you can on position shooting. The books mentioned above are among the best in this area. Another thing that is probably going on is that you are put under WAY too much mental pressure every time you shoot - both by your coach for threatening to kick you off the team, and th...

300m is pretty far for comfortably resolving bullet holes in the black. Going much beyond 60x will require extremely high quality (read "expensive") and large optics to be truly better at resolving bullet holes. Oftentimes high magnification will make things look bigger/closer but the reso...

How much does your hold/grip affect accuracy on a rimfire?

My question was prompted specifically by a Savage Mark II with a heavy barrel that I just picked up, but I'd imagine the same issues would apply to any rimfire target rifle as well. My Savage shot ~.7 - .8 inch groups with CCI standard velocity and Wolf MT at 50 yards. I took it out to 100 yards yes...

Thanks for the tip, Paul. I seem to remember hearing about another option that was not quite as permanent. I think it was product sold by one of the main shooting vendors? Does anyone know what I might be thinking about?

My understanding is that the barrel weights simply change the center of mass (and hence the balance point) of the gun, be it pistol or rifle. I believe the following to be correct, but YMMV :-) As you extend the barrel weights towards the muzzle, the gun will be more muzzle heavy and will require mo...

What would you guys recommend for putty/filler to modify and build up a grip to fit my hand? Are there reversible options that don't mar the finish or leave behind a nasty residue?

Does the muzzle have to be behind the firing line, or can you put your forward foot right up to the firing line (which would put the muzzle well over the line)?

Thanks for posting these matches! I'm a member of Mass Rifle, but hadn't heard of these.

I'm going to try and make it to whichever I can, but I don't know if I can get to your neck of the woods from Bedord in time during rush hour.

Thanks everyone for all of the replies. I'm always impressed with the quality of responses on this forum. The easiest thing would be to just head up to Larry's and try a few of the guns out. Unfortunately, this would be even easier if he was open on the weekends. I'm a bit hesitant to take off time ...

Comparing SSP air pistols, which to buy?

I currently have an IZH-46M. It's phenomenally accurate, and I think the trigger is wonderful, but the ergonomics leave a lot to be desired, at least for me. The gun is a heavy, but that doesn't bother me too much. I'm not a huge fan, though, of how front heavy it is. I'd rather a gun that balances ...

You have an Anschutz 2001. I have one that looks identical. Mine says "Superair 2001" in big letters along the side of the barrel. I believe the only difference between the 2001 and the 2002 is the load cocking/loading mechanism. There is no dry fire mechanism on the 2001, but I have no co...

Thanks Tim, that was VERY helpful. Now I have a couple more questions, though. Do you know of a mounting solution that would let me mount a modern front sight onto my older barrel, directly, without using riser blocks? I am thinking I might want to use a more modern front sight with cant adjustments...

Different sight mounts on older Anschutz?

I have an Anschutz 1413 free rifle that I purchased used. Actually, it is a 1413 stock, and it looks like a Model 54 action. It came with a fairly new rear sight (I think its maybe 2-3 generations old, one of the metal ones), which fits onto a modern looking Anschutz rail (it is the same as is on my...

Center fire shooting glasses?

I know that this forum is for air and smallbore, but I'm sure that some people also shoot centerfire arms as well. I have an old Remington 1917 Enfield that I shoot in hi power matches at my club. I would like to start using my knobloch prescription shooting glasses while shooting it, as I can adjus...

I live outside of boston, and have been shooting on my club's smallbore team all winter. Tomorrow is our last day, which leave me without any meets until next year. does anyone know of any smallbore or air rifle events in the Northeast area anytime this summer? How about amy major matches farther aw...

I'm not a lawery (yet!) but my interpretation of that paragraph is: 1. You need a permit for ANY gun, including an air pistol or air rifle, in NYC. 2. Said permit is issued by the police. 3. If you are at a gun range, you can use your gun. Otherwise, you cannot. 4. The gun cannot be shipped into the...
