bullseye competition question
I used to shoot this back when it was called NRA Conventional and my memory must be fading. . . Anyway, my question is: how much time does the tournament range officer allow for prep time for each stage (reloading magazines, etc.)? I'm helping a women's group get used to competitive shooting and I'm...

My daddy's High Standard Supermatic Trophy (Hamden) is one of the most accurate .22's I've ever fired! I'm currently shooting it right now - but having some misfires with it (failing to feed, some trigger issues too). I've been advised that I probably need the recoil and trigger springs replaced. Si...

Leo, Do yourself and your wallet a favor and don't try to buy everything at once. With a little resourcefulness, you can find things that work just as well for you as buying new gear right now. For instance, a piece of carpet, a foam mat, or an old yoga mat work very well as shooting mats. You can s...

Mac141, I'm sure you will get a lot of people responding telling you their own personal preferences, but my observation is that most of the US smallbore team are using Anschutz rifles. It's my personal favorite as well. Practically every picture I saw of the international shooters showed them holdin...

I think part of the problem is that smallbore shooting is a participation sport - as a spectator sport it is about as exciting as watching paint dry. The reason (not the only reason) that media attention ignores the competitions is that they are boring. The competitiors don't look like they are doin...

If nothing else, at least this proves that even Olympic athletes are just like the rest of us - they're human. And humans make mistakes - and sometimes things just happen, no matter whether it's through our fault or someone else's. One of the Chinese women shooters was a favorite to win a gold and s...

I might have to differ with you on that point, corning. I've found lots of women interested in rifle shooting who weren't interested in pistol. The only question that comes up pretty frequently concerns the amount of recoil that these women are expecting. A .22 rifle is pretty much unnoticeable in t...

I forgot about another point I'd like to make regarding this topic. Several of you have mentioned that other sports are taking the place of the shooting sports - have any of you considered that your daughters would be just as interested in shooting as your sons? I know that girls are now given more ...

Thanks Bpb, I'll do that. Is that the old Dallas Pistol and Revolver Club that used to be on Luna Road? If so, ya'll are the pistol club I was talking about. My dad was a member and a good competitive shooter there for many years. I was a member of the old Trinity Rifle Club (next door neighbor to t...

Well, I'm still a smallbore shooter and I'm still here. . .unfortunately, the range is gone. We had a good range too! It was big, and we frequently hosted large regional smallbore matches, ROTC units, casual shooters, and also had a very active Jr program. Then, I went off to college. By the time I ...

Urban sprawl vs. your gun range. . .Guess who loses!
I'm a brand new member to this board which I just happened to stumble across a few days ago. The reason I stumbled across this board started with my ongoing quest to find a good smallbore range. I began shooting under the guidance of my father - a devoted competitive pistol shooter - and a shooting ...

Anschutz rifles
The 1413 is a 70's era weapon - I own the 1407 model which is a little lighter and leaner. If the weapon has been well-cared for, it'll probably outlast you! Accuracy is never a problem with Anschutz - they build a great gun!
