The MEC book is good. If you can find or borrow a copy of Yuryev's "Competitive Shooting", I highly recommend it. The Soviets did a LOT of research on the subject.

I agree that it's a done deal. I'm not sure it's a bad deal. RF bays are scarce, and there's no real possibility of a competitor owning a portable one. A single turning target is far easier to procure.

Order the pistol. You can use it for RF or SP.

I'll let you in on a Dirty Little Secret. You can shoot straighter with one hand than with two. There's less to get right. A second hand might be useful for recoil management, but not for accuracy.

You should be wearing glasses anyway as a safety measure, there's no reason not to make them prescription.

My load is 15 grains of Swiss #2 powder, with Cream of Wheat (farina) filler. Volumetric measure.

That's one. Also check the 12th Precinct Pistol Club (Annapolis, MD), and the Fairfax Rod & Gun Club (actually in Manassas, VA).

Look for places that have a decent number of competitions. Example: In the National Capital area, there are two or three clubs holding monthly matches.

Talk to www.customsightpicture.com, get their kit and use it. If you can actually visit Dr. Toler in Richmond, VA, that's best.

I think it's more a matter of weight. Clap a dot on a 1911 and it comes up to the weight of a longslide pistol.

I love RF, but the sad fact is that it's damned near impossible to find a target bay. Men's Sport Pistol would make it MUCH easier to find ranges - you could even go with a portable turning target rig (that fits into the trunk of a car).
