If you have shifted the sights so far that you are not even on the target, approach the target and shoot two handed (for stability) from say five yards. After a few shots, you should have some idea where it is grouping. Pull the group to approx. centre with the sight adjustment, step back two paces ...

I sold my 717 over a year ago, so possibly my recollection is false. However, I think that when the cocking lever is fully forward, the piston should just open the cylinder to the atmosphere, by about 1/32". It could be that the stroke adjuster has worked itself round and pushed the piston slig...

Thanks Nano,
Does the above mean sand out the thumb rest until the thumb hardly touches it, or line the thumb rest with sandpaper to sense when and if pressure is applied there?

AP grip

Sorry if this is a very basic question, but in 10m AP, should the thumb play an active part in gripping the pistol, or should it simply rest limp on the thumb rest.

Just back from a long vacation. The Alfa Sport and presumably the Classic also, have a triangular foresight post that gives 3 widths. Vernier not handy so can't give dimensions. Rear sight plate can be turned over to give a wide notch or a narrow one, so overall a reasonable choice of combinations. ...

Re the 2 stage trigger - once you are past the 60's you should not use a 2 stage trigger because you are losing your reflexes and co-ordination. . I only visit this site from time to time (maybe I should look in more often), but this is the first time I have seen anyone stating a preference, with t...

Many thanks for all your feedback guys. The various personal methods and the reasoning behind them are all very valid. It is apparent that simply lowering to the target is not the absolute Holy Grail, with Paul NC for example lowering, then re-raising somewhat. Your input has given me the confidence...

I have an Alfa Sport and whilst the pistol does not profess to be "world class", it most certainly is not crap. I have not tried a Tau or a Drulov, but have no doubts that they are not crap either. I do not disagree that a used "ex world class" CO2 pistol would be a good alternat...

Raise or lower pistol to hold point?

In Nano's Change of Technique thread, Fred Mannis says:- "I am trying a much lighter 2nd stage (than usual for me) on a new gun. I use a very light, relaxed grip. I come up, align the sights and take up the first stage below the card, then come up the short distance to my hold point in the 6 ri...

"- not everybody has/needs the same script for both eyes. - no need to 'white out' (or whatever method you use) the entire non-shooting eye lens. There are advantages to having the same light levels to each eye. Frosted tape on that lens to cover the target and sights area works and still lets ...

I've had an Alfa Sport for almost a year. The overall quality and finish is very good. Anatomical grip needed no mods, for me at least (small hands). The latest version has a bolt action breech, which is an improvement over the "door flap" version. Trigger is multi adjustable, 1 or 2 stage,...

Re. the El Cheapo glasses and lenses, if you send the El Cheapo lens to one of the mail order companies that make economical prescription glasses, they will make you a lens of the diopter you require, to fit the Cheapo frame. Or, simply get a complete pair from same source, same diopter both eyes an...

Yes I am in a club, David, but it is a rifle club and also a little parochial! There are only a few guys doing pistol and I think they have evolved over the years, are way past their initial learning stage and "get on with the job" without thinking too much of the hows and whys. I am exper...

I guess it may well be between the ears! My present train of thought is that possibly with a single stage, not too short, train the brain to keep pulling at the trigger to a surprise break and concentrate conscious thought on the front sight. In my brain, when I get to the second stage of a two stag...

Thanks for the clarification David. Yes, the end pad of my finger is at 90 deg. to the barrel at the end of the first stage, but the "sudden" increase in muscle tension at the start of the second stage (for want of a better description) seems to upset my hold.

Hi Fred I was thinking on the same lines as yourself ie. a single stage of whatever length and a steady, evenly increasing pull. I find that the second stage of a two stage, to me at least, is like commencing another pull and tends to upset my hold. I posted to see if there was any concensus of a &q...
