paper to electronic score improvement (25yd prone)
I suppose that when moving from paper to electronic targets, one should expect a score improvement (thereby giving an advantage in competition to clubs with rich members...), as one is no longer moving between diagrams. Anybody have an idea of what one ought to expect? (So I don't suddenly think I'm...

Re: centra sling
Thanks, both.
My main problem with my ESE sling is that it keeps slipping round my arm, moving the pull from outside to inside, and catching the pulse. (I have thin and weedy arms :) so there's a lot of empty space in the jacket sleeve, and not a lot for the sling cuff to grip.)

centra sling
Does anybody have experience with the Centra sling, or its cheaper Startline version? Is it a significant improvement over the standard sling?

supersonic ammo indoors
Those of you who shoot indoors at 25m/25yd - do you allow people to use supersonic ammo (e.g. RWS R100) in your range? If so, how much noisier is it for people in the building?

travelling by public transport in uk: edinburgh to bisley
I have carelessly qualified for one of the NSRA Eley Postal finals at Bisley (prone class C). I'm near the bottom of the finalists and not shooting well at present, so the obvious thing to do is just forget it, but there's a certain temptation to have the live competition experience. However, I've n...

vertical shift (.22 25yd prone)
Thanks to the much helpful advice I've received here, things were going fairly well over the autumn, but now I'm going through a bad patch again! (So's everyone else in my club:) Current most annoying issue is massive vertical changes in PoI, both up and down - even into the 8 ring sometimes. And I ...

Re: sudden large changes in point of impact
Thanks, Tim - plenty to think about next week!
Pat - yes, I mount once. I've seen in Fuller's classic book the advice to remount for every shot, but I've never seen anybody do it, so I felt shy about trying it :) But there's only me in the .22 range these days, so no call for shyness.

Re: sudden large changes in point of impact
Thanks, 40xguy - I'm pretty sure the rifle is solid. It's a floating barrel, and the clamps are firm. Thank you, Tim, for your usual most helpful reply! I do have quite a bit of cant, and lateral adjustment. The thing I'm less sure about is getting the butt vertically adjusted. Until recently, I mou...

sudden large changes in point of impact
My latest appeal for ideas! (.22 25 yard prone *left-handed*) Things have gone fairly well the last few weeks, and I thought I was settling down after my position re-build. Today I shot a couple of not-great (96) practice cards, followed by an ok (97) competition card (my current goal is nothing bel...

Re: prone elbow pain
Today I shot with a random bit of 8mm stiff foam packing from a mail order up my sleeve. No pain!

Re: prone elbow pain
Thanks for the replies. The trouble with wearing extra layers is that I'm not very good at coping with heat :) It's now "summer" in Edinburgh, so I have to shoot without a sweater (or cook), and I extend my butt a bit to compensate. I hadn't thought about it affecting the sling - I did not...

Re: cheek piece adjustment (.22 prone)
Yes, Tim is right. Most of the time, I can group well within the 10-ring on a single target - it's the moving around targets that is the hard part.

Thanks, that's reassuring. I'll stick with it for a while (if my elbow lets me:)

cheek piece adjustment (.22 prone)
I have an EC stock with Grunig and Elmer buttplate, so there are a bazillion things I *could* adjust. I've been having difficulty for a while with discomfort on the cheekbone and getting my head to rest comfortably, so a couple of weeks ago I thought I would try just loosening all the cheekpiece scr...

prone elbow pain
(This is of course not a novel problem, but I'm posting in case anybody has new thoughts that I haven't seen in other posts or other fora!) I'm having increasing problems with my sling arm elbow (my right, since I shoot left-handed). The symptom is fairly sharp pain just on the forearm side of the o...

cheekpiece and head position
My current bugbear is getting a consistent and relaxed head position. My rifle is an EC Universal stock, and the cheekpiece is, in the modern style, basically a right angle piece of metal. My difficulty is (a) whether to use the wealth of adjustability, or just stick to height and left/right (rather...

Re: unexplained large vertical errors
Just to follow up on this a few months later. I think Tim S had the main problem identified, namely neck muscles. I raised the cheek piece another millimeter, and made it part of every pre-shot check to think "is my head firmly flopped on to the cheek piece, or am I holding it up?". Touch ...

Re: unexplained large vertical errors
Thanks for further replies! I do try to bring the butt into my shoulder in the standard way, but possibly I don't pay as much attention as I should. I concentrated on Monday, and had some bad cards, but nothing catastrophic. I did move the hook a bit, so that it engages less strongly with my side .....

Re: unexplained large vertical errors
Thanks, Art, I'll check that. I'm 53, and my normal contact lens is -4.75 (and astigmatism correction) for distance vision in the left eye. My optician said she's had Olympic shooting clients, so I'd hope she knew to add something, but I will check!

Re: unexplained large vertical errors
Thanks, everybody, for your comments. Ammunition is RWS Special Match, which should be capable of holding the spot at 25 yds, though I have once or twice had a loud round that went high. The suggestion about cheek piece was helpful. I thought about what was happening, and realized that I am probably...
