They are steel and can be seen below. I think they are just closer to ball bearing "roundness" and "smoothness" relative to an old Crosman or Daisy BB. Can be found at Oshmans, Acadamy or your sporting goods chain of choice. Pricy if you are not shooting in a competition. And of ...

Update on low cost beginer pellets

Haireacane: Thanks for the info on BBs. I will have to say 2% of the copper coated Crossman BBs I got from CMP have are dark from rust. Ok, some form of oxide that is dark brown. I guess I have to pick through them and toss them out. We also have some Daisy BBs but expect these are not the same as '...

CMP experience

This is meant as information only. Our club ordered 18,000 BBs which is the smallest qty you can order. It comes out to $.67/500 or $3.19/ 1500 milk carton. Crossman Copperhead brand as found at Walmart. We also ordered the 6,000 lot of practice pellets. They are Daisy pellets mfg in China part #557...

Thanks for the input. It seems it leaned too much to the "which is best" or which is "not so good" which is NOT my intent. In fact the last two years I've been engaged in getting a 4H shooting sports program started in the DFW area. Yes, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Humble, Bren...

Tilly, hats off to your humor! Sometimes things get a bit serious here. I have to admit I did make the straightest coat hanger poker I could. Put some super slippery silicone down the muzzle and after a bit knocked the 4 bloody things out. Yes, I sinned. But since this one rifle had its bypass plug ...

Great write up! Wish I could have made it. I know of three folks from Texas who went but have not heard anything from them as of yet. Any way that non attendees can benefit from what was shared? Your review just makes me wonder what we all missed.

Daisy 888 questions

Our club has 6 888s and 8 cylinders and it is turning out to be more work than I expected to keep them all running. I have yet to have all 6 and 8 working at the same time! Newest wrinkle which I need some advice on: Bypass plug in receiver missing. Seems at the last session a shooter got low on CO2...

How went your search to find a coach for your daughter's interest. I read the post a bit late but I am also in Texas. Can't talk to shotgun at all but it just so happens you live closer to the State CMP director than I do. See http://www.brenzovich.com/educationtraining.htm I would be interested in ...

Youth shooting programs

In my spare time I have been trying to get a precision shooting program going in the DFW area. To my surprise there are very few programs going at the beginner level but I suspect that statement may get me in hot water so let me continue. I am looking to stimulate a general constructive discussion a...

Filling 2.5 oz cylinders for 888, what's the best technique?

Well, I weighed 4 empty cylinders. 14.0 oz for two of older mfg and 14.2 oz for two of newer mfg. Took them home, popped them in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Put them on my home food scale which is not an optimal set up but it does have hash marks for oz. Filled each from my 40# siphon tank usi...

Others have already said it. First, you need to a full source tank, preferably a 40# with siphon tube. Going from small volume bottles to the cylinder will prove unsuccessful based on input from my CO2 supplier. Second, you must have the empty weight of each cylinder and put it on the cylinder. Fill...

Making it fun for kids

Had our monthly 4-H shoot this last Sunday at Backwoods in North Dallas area. Hot day. 10 kids ranging from 9 to 15. 50/50 girl boy. Some were finishing their postal match (22) but we had the 499 bb guns and 888 10m guns out as well as one 747 pistol. Most of the interest was in completing postal ma...

Well, guess my smarts were not working last night. Did another search under JROTC and not JrROTC and found the spot. https://gateway.usarmyjrotc.com/http://portal.usarmyjrotc.com/jrotc/dt Look in top right and find your state, school and proceed. I now have the contact I was looking for and will adv...

Jason, nice link, nice program!! Goes to show there is hope in getting youth programs working. Your post made me wonder if there is a JrROTC type web site. I know there are some programs at schools run by the JrROTC. It would be nice to be able to contact them and see if there is a way to get some s...

Bill: I was in your shoes about 15 months ago after my 11 year old daughter had so much fun shooting silhouette with Dad. I hunted and hunted for a youth shooting program. Then one day I had the opportunity to talk with Lanny Basham at the Dallas White Rock marathon. We talked about a number of thin...

It is good that you are networked locally. I think that is an area we should work on. We need to better understand what programs are going on around us and make the occational road trip to let the kids see what other clubs are up to.

Anyone on here from the North Dallas...North East Texas area?
