Re: Can anyone tell me how to socially distant
As with any activity, YOUR safety comes first. Wear a mask and keep your 6' distance. Have a volunteer check every person that enters the building for fever and symptoms. Shooters that are sharing equipment need to thoroughly clean it after each use or before lending to another. I would at least req...

Re: Training tools on a budget
Try to find a local club that shoots competitions. 4-H, CMP, NEW and JROTC offer many youth opportunities.

Re: Metallic Silhouette Practice Rifle
The Crosman Challenger is well suited for aperture and scoped shooting. Our 4-H kids compete with these for 3-P Sporter and Silhouettes. The velocity is easily adjustable to reach out to the Rams at 45 yards.

We Louisiana 4-H people are sure NOT happy with the new Sporter Silhouette Rule for Nationals.

Re: If you could read just one book on rifle shooting.
I've learned to read, study and network with other coaches and shooters. As coaches, we owe it to our team to continuously improve our craft. I love to read, so I read tons of stuff about shooting. Some details may work. Some methods might not. Still, I have a great amount of information to referenc...

Re: Two questions for experienced youth groups
When I run the line, EVERYONE is expected to be a Safety Officer. Any safety infractions need to be addressed immediately! Stop it now, but use the incident as a teachable moment for everyone. The tone of my feedback is set by the severity of the offense and, mostly, the attitude of the offender. Pa...

Re: Air Rifle Silhouette
They provide a seperate room in the building. The safe area is deemed necessary by NRA Rules. Shooters were given time to air up between animals.

Re: Offhand Advice Request
Yoga helped my 225# fullback son improve his standing scores. Seriously! It helped build his core strength and balance. The others are spot on about the shoes. A former Olympic coach told us the "stuff" that makes shoes comfortable, makes shooting like you're standing in a pirogue (canoe f...

Re: Air Rifle Silhouette
My son competed in Air Rifle at 4-H Nationals last year. He's an NRA AAA class air and Smallbore silhouette shooter. He uses a CZ/Air Arms T200 (PCP) cranked up to 700fps. The higher velocity helps on windy days. Some of my shooters use the Crosman Challenger with excellent results. If money is a co...

Re: What's the problem with 4-H?
I didn't mean to criticize any other shooting event, organization or competition. I think my reason for posting should have been more specific. How could we make 4-H shooting sports better? Were all pulling in the same general direction with all we do...to teach and guide our children. I appreciate ...

Re: What's the problem with 4-H?
I do agree with some aspects of what y'all are saying. I understand that some programs may not follow the specific guidelines or rules, but I think most are doing the best they can. We strive to teach firearm safety to youngsters. Competition is a route you can take, but not a must. We don't want it...

What's the problem with 4-H?
I have noticed a few folks don't like or care for 4-H Shooting Sports. As a Level II Instructor, who trains and certifies new instructors, I'm always looking for ways to improve our program. Is there some grave error that we are committing, yet aren't aware of? I really am looking for guidance on th...

Re: State 4-H
In Louisiana, we hold a two Regional Matches to qualify for State (north and south). Regional matches are split into the northern and southern Parishes (counties). Each match has 1200+ entrants. We shoot the match from Wednesday thru Saturday, with Sunday as a makeup day for weather or other problem...
