Where do you store your targets? If you keep them in a damp basement, they will be more prone to tear from lower velocity pellets. We have the same problem at our club, shooting in a basement over the winter. You may find that keeping them dryer, solves the problem.

F-1 chrony will work fine for this; as well as rimfire and centerfire rounds.

ps: If you use indoors, as I do with airguns, you will likely have to add some additional lighting above the translucent barriers to get good readings.

Try this link for some basic info. on wind drift. As winds are seldom constant or kind enough to only come from 90degrees left or right, experience is still the best. Regardless, it's interesting reading.
