Desert Midwinter Matches Report

I just returned from the Desert Midwinter matches at Phoenix Rod & Gun Club. It was very enjoyable. There was free camping at the range. And the hospitality was awesome. Don Plante really knows how to run some great matches. Here are some of the highlights: On Wednesday, all the ranges were open...

Misny,

You're right. I have a theory that it is the Budweiser beer that keeps him in a stupor. Now if I could only take him with me on the Pilkington tour to Germany during Oktoberfest, he would then learn what really excellent beer tastes like.

A pistol coach once told me he would have his shooter train with two radios turned on, to two different stations. He said this was very effective in training his shooter to ignore distractions. The BATFE has a Q&A page that addresses the use of silencers on paintball guns and air guns. See http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#a9

I don't see how they can say that a paintball gun or air gun is a firearm, but in this case they do.

Craig,

You may see more than you expect, based on what Paul did in the 3X Air Elimination Match (BTW, Paul ended up third).

For outstanding reliability, I recommend the Feinwerkbau AW-93. I shot mine for eleven months, about 10,000 rounds and never had a malfunction. It is gratifying to see others have had similar experiences. My Hämmerli 208s has had problems with misfires. I had Larry Carter work on it, and it still re...

I do compete in pistol at Camp Perry every year. When I looked into also shooting the USAS Nationals at Ft. Benning, I was principly discouraged by the length of the schedule (I want to shoot all men's events). Then the expense did not look reasonable in comparison with CP. Then the distance to trav...

Erich was responsible for the pistol Master's Camp and for starting the 3X Air Pistol Match, both held at the OTC. I hope that these two events will continue to be held by the new pistol coach.

The short answer: USAS is the national governing body for Olympic shooting sports for the USA. The NRA formerly was the NGB until the formation of USAS. But the NRA still has international shooting competitions conducted under it's auspices and still keeps track of NRA national records for it's inte...

Short answer; Yes. Current law requires that you have an FFL to 'receive' a firearm or frame from out-of-state. The BATFE requires you to have an FFL if you are in the firearms business. They consider being a gunsmith as "being in the firearms business". There is an exemption if you only d...

I stopped in Neal Johnson's last Friday and they had a case of Russian Olymp. Forgot how much they wanted for it, but it wasn't cheap.
