Just for the heck of it, I decided to try an experiment, Scotch taping the right lens in my glasses, forcing me to use my non-dominant eye. Then I went and fired 20 shots AP. I had never actually tried this, so I figured it was about time I did, rather than just guess at the result. Guess what? It d...

I hadn't spotted that thread re: using a camcorder and a monitor. That's a great setup. I agree it couldn't be easily transported, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I have a big Kowa scope I've been lugging to the range for years for everything from 10m AP to high power rifle at 100+ yards. (T...

I advocate following the dominant hand. It's pros of controllability outweigh the cons of the cross dominant eye. I agree. Cross dominance is a problem mostly only for rifle shooters, where you have to put your cheek down on the comb of the stock to line up your eye with the rear sight. If you're c...

If sighting in a pistol could be done usefully by clamping a gun in a vise, they'd have done that at the factory and there'd be no need for adjustable sights. The whole point of adjustable sights isn't to make sure that the gun's POA and POI are lined up, it's to make sure YOUR POA and POI are lined...

I find that having an adjustable iris in the rear peep and an adjustable ring in the front sight are both worth every penny. That's what I have on my Anschutz 1903 (smallbore rifle) and they really help my scores. Dialing them both down as far as I can comfortably, the adjustable rear peep helps wit...

Cataract surgery
At my last eye exam, I found out that the cataracts I was first diagnosed with about 5 years ago have become much worse, enough so that I can no longer be corrected to 20:20 vision. They may/may not be quite bad enough that insurance will pay for it, but now that I know what's causing the problems I...

Re: scope mount on Pardini SP New
It is. :) There's a reason why the US military (with a more-or-less unlimited budget) uses Aimpoints. They really are that good, just really expensive.mikeschroeder wrote:I would have to comment that if there's something better than an Ultradot it must be pretty good.

For me personally and for other shooters I know who shoot both AP and FP, it's a lot easier to shoot Class A in AP than it is to shoot that in FP which I suppose is one way of saying that FP is harder. Compare, for example, the scores in our AP league to those turned in by some of the same people in...

Re: scope mount on Pardini SP New
I think I'm going with the Pardini SP New. Should I get the scope mount or is this not needed? You'll be very happy with the Pardini. Re: the red dot, this is personal choice obviously, but for NRA Bullseye, I use one, which is why I have two Pardini SPs (well, actually, one's an SP New.) One is se...

On the value of a good coach
This is a bit off-topic as it has to do with shotgun, not the pistol or rifle topics we normally talk about here on TT, but I had such a great time yesterday, I felt like I just had to share it. I've just recently gotten interested to learn to shoot shotgun. It's fun because the clays are such react...

Btw, it occurs to me to post a link to the Parker v. District of Columbia decision. It's a fascinating analysis of the Second Amendment and should be required reading for anyone interested in the gun debate. From page 36 of the decision: The prefatory language announcing the desirability of a well-r...

Yes, a stovepipe is failure to eject where the spent case gets caught before it clears the ejection port. The easiest way to correct the problem will likely be with a different brand of ammo. Every gun (including different serial numbers of the same brand and model) is different, so what works in my...
