Re: gun choices for .22 target

The made-in-1917 Colt frame my father brought home after WWII wears a Marvel conversion, and I shoot it as well as my Hi-Standard, GSP, or Nelson conversion. I don't have a Pardini.

Your wallet is your guide. If you can afford it, buy them all.

Re: Winchester 52 D

I got one from the CMP when they had them. The rifles shoot really well, but they are heavy. I would go look at Rim Fire Central's forum on them. https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=265 My experience with a 52D is that it needs 1/8 MOA sights, not the 1/4 MOA sights. My daughter...

Re: need advice for spotting scope

Are you allowed to do anything to make your bullet holes more visible? One of the High-power clubs I belong to will cut out the backing behind just the Bullseye on the 200 yard range and I can better see .223 holes. I have a Kowa 82mm with 27X long eye relief eyepiece that's about 10 years old, and ...

Re: Walther GSP purchase advice sought

The GSP has evolved over time. Do yourself a favor and read up on the design changes. If I remember correctly, those made after 1980 are much more desirable. On these guns, I believe the upper is the pistol under US law, not the lower. I had to fill out a multiple sale 4473 for my used GSP combo. I ...

Re: Would would it take to make 1911 competitive

I just had a Colt Mark IV Series 80 turned into a Bullseye gun. In the 30+ years I'd owned the gun, I'd not shot it that much, and I decided I would have it turned into a Bullseye pistol. On one of the other forums, many people spoke highly of Dave Salyer. A complete tightening, Kart fitted barrel, ...

There are various types of FFL

One type of FFL allows the dealer to import firearms. This is not easy, cheap or quick. Earlier this year I took delivery of two pistols specially imported for me from Germany. It took about 18 months. The penalties for violating the rather complicated US laws are really scary. In order to do this y...

Re: Kimber 82G Good or Bad?

I bought two. One I have shot a good bit, the other very little. Both had ignition problems, apparently because of the striker spring having taken a set, and this went away when the spring was replaced. Both of mine were classed by CMP as "Rusty," but the only rust I've found was on the st...

Re: Ideas for pellet trap -home use

The putty referred to above is probably "duct seal," a mix of clay and light oil, and makes for a trap that is very quiet and lead dust free. My wife's dogs mind this type of trap a lot less than the steel traps. Any sizable wood box will serve well as a form. The one I chose, I put a piec...

Can I suggest you look for forums where people are still using them? You'll have to register to access the following, but that costs nothing:

I need a taller Walther GSP front sight

I am having the problem discussed in this thread (only worse): http://www.targettalk.org/viewtopic.php?t=36754 I recently bought a used GSP in .22 and .32. The one shoots 3 and a half inches above point of aim, the other almost 4 inches above point of aim at 50 feet, and that with about the tallest ...

I seem to remember the Russians making a fairly cheap Biathlon trainer, with a toggle bolt. I seem to remember European American Armory (EAA) importing it.

Zero humidity might cause problems with wood

When accuracy counts, there is typically free floating and or fiberglass, so probably not much trouble from zero humidity.

You can also get a vapor phase emitter to try to prevent rust.

If your rifle is a .22 long rifle caliber, I would not buy a .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire bolt. The head on a .22 wmr is much larger than the .22 lr.

Re: S&W 52/1 reloading

R1 has not been sold here in the US for better than 10 years, so not a lot of us have any recent experience with it. It has a burning rate that is about the fastest ever made, so powder charges will be very light.

All the old links I have for this powder are dead. Sorry.
