Re: New less expensive biathlon rifles
ESA is apparently now going to make stocks again but only sell what he has in stock rather than taking pre-production orders. Good news.

Re: vision quest
I got contacts this year for this exact reason. So far so good. I prefer glasses but when you can't see due to fogging you ski a lot of laps...

Re: New less expensive biathlon rifles
I saw a facebook post that ESA is not accepting any more new orders for stocks or biathlon rifles. Not sure if they will start up production again at some point, but in my opinion this is a bit of a blow for the US biathlon community, particularly new participants who may not have $4k to spend on a ...

Re: Safety question
No, I think the 1827 does come with a safety from the factory. A friend has one with a manual safety.
I was just saying in general that's why people might remove them.

5 shots per mag, 5 targets per shooting stage.
Thus, you are never skiing with a live round in the chamber.
No need for a safety...

Sloppy but still snowy
I just got home from Blackhawk. Some of trails will soon be mud and grass, probably within 48-72 hours, but it sure was fun to be skiing at 40F in mid March. The downhills have a nice probably 2? foot base but the natural snow is pretty slushy and thin. Spent some time today skiing up the downhills....

Noob Rifle
I'm a noob but as far as I can tell for a noob, the main difference in the rifles is the action. Eastern Sierra Armory right now uses the Savage Mark II rifle which has a bolt action and requires more body movement in between shots. The Izhmash and Anschutz have a different action which requires les...

ESA rifles
Quick note to say I recently purchased a gen 2 ESA rifle from Clayton (who posted a couple above here in this thread). Super happy with the rifle, service from Clayton, and whole process. He even rushed it out the door so i would have it in time for an event last weekend. Thanks Clayton.

Hey Mike! Yeah I'll be out tonight, ski from 5 to 6 hopefully, then shoot. Can't make it tomorrow, I know you're going out tomorrow too. I'll ask you specifically what you mean by cleaning the barrel, etc, -- want to protect the investment. Also interested in the answer to your questions about summe...

Bringing cold rifle inside
Noob here - long time skiier and beginner shooter. Sorry if this has been answered, I searched and came up empty. Just bought an ESA 2nd gen rifle, very happy with it so far. Paid extra for stainless barrel, but wondering specifically if anything needs to be done to prevent rust or damage upon bring...
